HEARST RECEIVES A ZELAYA CABLE
Nicaraguan President Directs An Appeal to Newspaper Proprietor.
MAKES AN EXPLANATION
8AYS HE WANTS THE AMERICAN PEOPLE TO HEAR HIS SIDE OF THE CASE EXECUTIONS -EXPLAINED BY HIM.
(American News Service New York, Nov. 27. The New York American today prints the following copywrighted dispatch from President Zelaya of Nicaragua: "Managua. Nicaragua. "William Randolph Hearst. New York: Aa proprietor of many daily papers of large circulation, I understand that you are always willing to hear both sides of any momentous issue. I therefore desire to explain to the American people through your impartial journals the grave motive of my government for executing the Americans. Cannon and Groce, to counteract the effect of intentional false reports given by the enemies of my government. "The revolutionists occupied a strong position at the mouth of the river San Juan with a view to blow up the steamers conveying government troops. "One mine was exploded near the Diamante, which had five hundred soldiers on board. Cannon and Groce were captured In the act and confessed voluntarily their guilt. Given Fair Trial. "They were tried by courtmartial, were given every legal privilege to introduce ample defense, and sentence was pronounced according to the military code. "Cannon had taken part in various revolutions In 1897. The government of Honduras pardoned him on the express condition that he would abstain In future from Central American internal troubles. "When Cannon and Groce were captured they were serving as officers with the revolutionists. (Signed) Jose Santos Zelaya, President of Nicaragua."
A DRASTIC ORDER. Colon, Nov. 27. President Zelaya of Nicaragua has ordered the execution of every foreigner captured among the revolutionists. This is the news in messages received from Bluefields today. Gen. Chamorro learned of the order from prisoners captured by the revolutionary troops. It was reported today that Gen. Toledo, commander of the Zelaya forces at Greytown has resigned as the result of criticism passed on him by Zelaya because he failed to trap Gen. Chamorro. Greytown, blockaded by the insurgents, is suffering from lack of food. The troops there are starving, and helpless till supplies and ammunition come.

NO EXPLANATION IS GIVEN
(American News Service) Spencer. Ind., Nov. 27. The private bank of Iieem, Peden & Co.. with deposits of a quarter of a million dollars, was closed today on an order of State Auditor Billheimer. No statement was given out by either the bank or the auditor as to the cause. It was a big surprise here. The citizens, however have absolute confidence. The bank has been doing business here for forty years. The Beera Manufacturing company and the Peden Brothers Livestock company, with aggregate assets of two hundred thousand dollars are generally understood to have been financed by the bank's money but depositors are confident of dollar for dollar. The bank has fifty thousand dollars, cash on hand.
$400 GOLD FISH SOLD FOR $1.55 Seven Young Boys Arrested . By the Police on a Very Odd Charge.
RAID A BREEDING POND
AND TOOK 34 LARGE FELLOWS, VALUED AT $10 EACH, ALSO A BUCKET FULL OF SMALL FISHGUILT IS ADMITTED.
After stealing gold fish valued at about $400 and selling some for $1.55. and giving the others away, seven boys, ranging in years from 11 to 1,, made their appearance in police court this afternoon, and after being lectured, were instructed to go with John Moss and return as many of the fish as possible. The boys made a raid on the gold fish breeding pond of John Noss and William Meine, south of the city, and took 34 large gold fish, valued at $10 each and a bucket full of smaller ones. Have Fishery Plant. Mr. Noss and Mr. Meine operate a fishery company at the ponds on the George H. Knollenberg farm, south of the city, and during the winter put the gold fish in baskets at one corner of the pond and fence it in so that no one can get at them easily. The first part of the week they missed several of their large gold fish and made an investigation and notified the police with the result that seven boys were found who admitted their theft.
The boys admitted that they had taken the fish and knew where many of them were. They were told by Prosecutor Ladd that they should accompany Ntoss and Meine to the places where they sold or -gave away the fish and collect all possible. Several of the fish weighed about a pound each, and the boys expressed doubt whether many could be found alive.

The special meeting of the county council will be held Saturday, December 4, at 10:30 o'clock in the morning.
the call being issued this morning by
County Auditor Demas Coe. The council will meet to consider the ap
propriation for the insane wards at
the county infirmary and other matters, which demand immediate attention. C. E. Wiley, chairman of the county
commissioners, which body will have
to make an estimate of the appropria
tion needed, stated that the insane wards at the county infirmary would cost between ?t;,Ho and $HUM. It is probable that if the weather- is favorable for outside work the construction of the wards will be begun next month. The insane women, now confined at the Home for Friendless, will be taken to the county farm Monday, according to arrangements made this morning by the county commissioners. A special nurse, now in charge at the home, will accompany them to take charge until a regular matron or superintendent is appointed. The insane at the county jail will probably not be taken to the poor farm until after the wards have been finished.

Mr. Kessley stages a complete miniature theatre and has miniature actors and audiences. The Two Blue Jays, have a comical musical act w hich is making quite a hit
in this city. Their make-up is that of hobos and their clever jokes and musical selections are very good.

After a successful season, the scheduled games with some of the weakest football teams in Indiana and Ohio,
Coach Thistlethwaite is now after the leading Indiana and Ohio institutions for games in this city and at the respective institutions next year. The only strong games of the Quaker schedule, this season were with De Pauw and Butler and both games were played out of the city. Next year these squads will probably play on Reid field together with Wabash and Rose Poly. Two years ago when Earlham had a strong schedule her men were crippled and at no time in a good condition to play. This induced the former coach, Vail, last spring to sign contracts with small colleges. But when the season opened and the large number of men reported every one at the college and members of the alumni realized that the schedule was to be a
very weak one, and one by which the Quaker varsity could not test her strength. What the Coach Says. In the recent issue of the "Earlhamite" Coach Thistlethwaite makes note of the schedule and says, "St, Marys college presented a weak lineup and was no proposition for the Reserves. It looked rediculous for us to play such a weak team, but the unfortunate way in which the schedule was arranged last year made it impossible for us to do otherwise." "It is very pleasing to note that we loose but two members of the team by graduation, so that next year should find the squad almost intact. While our rating among teams of Indiana is not very high this time, duo largely to the fact that we have played so few strong Indiana college teams, the foundation for a great team has surely been laid and with a strong schedule next year and our strength will be more fairly tested. De Pauw, Rose Polytechnic and probably Wabash will be played on Reid field, with Franklin or Antioch furnishing the easier contests. While Wittenberg, Cincinnati and some other strong teams will be played away from home."
Rev. Gahre, superintendent of the Wernle Orphans' Home, is planning to
hold the opening exercises for the new dormitory of the institution, Sunday, December ". The completion of the new building has been delayed from time to time for various reasons and it may bo that the opening will have to be delayed until after December 5. The exercises for the occasion will not be elaborate in any sense. A formal dedication will not occur until spring because the trustees of the in
stitution wish as many of the members of the synod, which controls the home, as possible, to be present at the dedication. This would not be possible during December as the weather is generally cold and is usually so disagreeable under foot that it would prevent a large attendance.
