HISTORY In the year 18C6 the foundation of this great business was laid. In, a very modest little room 18x65 feet, situated to the right of the present edifice, with the present senior member and one clerk, this institution embarked Its way on the uncertain sea of commerce. Within five years of this date the store doubled its capacity. With these increased facilities, and the demands of its patrons, larger stock was added along with additional clerks, and with vigorous efforts and, by closest application on the part of the senior member of the present firm, the biiHlness continued to expand. The year 1877 this was made the greatest venture of all. In that year wus bullded and entirely new home. The most pretentious retail house in the city three stories and a basement equipped in the most substantial manner. Thus this Institution continued to grow, adding still more floor space, until now this great retail store Is the largest In Northeastern Indiana and the largest strictly retail dry goods storo In the central west, floor space covering an acre In area. Mr. George H.
