The American Telephone and Telegraph company, which has been quietly gobbling up the shares of the Western Union Telegraph stock, announced today that It had already secured a substantial minority interest in the Western Union and these two companies will in the future work in close harmony. The Western Union stock jumped to eighty-five today. The telephone trust is also largely interested in the Postal Telegraph which indicates absolute monopoly of the wire communication soon. TO CLEAN SCHOOL Investigation of Parochial Institutions Has Been Made. COMPLAINT WAS HEARD Frank Gausepohl, city sanitary inspector visited the three parochial schools of the city yesterday, and found conditions in some respects far from pleasing. He stated this noon that he had given orders that they be cleaned up, the floors scrubbed and the windows w.ished. The nature of the conditions were complained about In an anonymous letter, received bv Dr. J. N. Hurty, secretary of the stat3 board cf health, which he turned over to Dr. J. E. King, county health officer, "for action. The complalnan said that the windows were not washed but once a year; the floors seldom swept or scrubbed and conditions generally were poor, but Mr. Gausepohl says that he did not find them as bad as set forth by the writer. BOMB WASTHROWN Bishop of Cuzco Was Assassinated hy Anarchist at Lima, Peru. MURDERER TRIES SUICIDE (American News Service) Milan, Italy, Nov. 16. A cablegram from Lima, Peru, says the Bishop of Cuzco has been killed by a bomb thrown by an anarchist. The bishop's secretary who was riding with him when the bomb was hurled at the vehicle had both legs blown off. The murderer attempted suicide. He was unsuccessful. The police had difficulty in rescuing the assassin from the crowd determined to lynch him. ROWDY IN CRETE. (American News Service) : Cane a, Crete, Nov. 16. A dynamite bomb attributed to Annexationists was exploded in the chamber of deputies, doing considerable damage. The meeting had been scheduled, but had been deferred and the chamber therefere was unoccupied. A PAIR TO DRAW TO . Robert Kelley and Frank "Snooks" Murray, both colored, engaged in a pugilistic encounter on South Sixth street last evening which resulted in Kelley's arrest. The altercation grew . out of the fact that Keljey is alleged to have called "Snoqks" a vile name. On the witness stand in the city court this afternoon Murray stated that if Kelley ever laid hands on him again h ("Snooks") would kill him. This declaration was greeted with laughter by Kelley and it was with difficulty that Judge Converse obtained order again. Kelley was fined $5 and costs. LOT PLAT IS FILED. Recommendation for the recommitment of Mrs. Nancy S. Main to Eastern Indiana hospital, has been filed with County Clerk Harry E. Penny. Dr. Thurston made the examination and says in his report that she is suffering from insomnia, complains of not getting enough to eat and does not want to go to bed. City Statistics Deaths and Funerals. TOWLE Mrs. Eugenie Towle, aged 52 years, wife of Charles Towle, died yesterday noon at her home, 120 Har ris street, Falrview. Besides her husband she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. B. C. Vincent of Indianapolis. The funeral will take place Wednesday aft ernoon at 2 o'clock from the Third M. E. church. The burial will be in Earlham cemetery. Friends may call any time, ASK FOR ADMISSION. A petition has been filed with County Clerk Harry E. The Very Finest Are Those Formed From Silkworm Gat. Silkworm gut forms the best line for fishing purposes, partly on account of Its great tenacity and partly because it Is so transparent. Every year a sufficient number of Spanish silkworm grubs are selected for this purpose. After they hare eaten enough mulberry leaves and before they begin to spin they are thrown into vinegar for several hours. Each insect is killed, and the substance which the grub in the natural course would have spun Into a cocoon Is forcibly drawn from the dead .worm Into a much thicker and shorter liken thread. The threads are then placed In pure water for about four hours and afterward dipped for ten minutes in a solution of soft soap. The fine outer skin is thus loosened so that the workman can remove it with his hands. The threads must be dried In a shady place and are often bleached with sulphur vapor until they acquire the bright appearance of spun glass. London Telegraph. The Walters. Mrs. Lida Hazlitt, who is charged

with practicing medicine without a license, went on the stand at the cir cuit court, this morning, in her own behalf and made an important wit ness. Indications are that the case will be finished today, thus permitting the trial of the state versus Earl T Hall, for alleged embezzlement, to begin tomorrow, as scheduled. Mrs. Hazlitt testified that she was a metaphysical teacher and has been practicing such treatment for about twenty-one years. She said that in administering this treatment to pa tients, the laying on of the hands on the body was practiced and prayer pronounced in the behalf of the per son being treated. She said that in her treatment she applied the pronv ises of Jesus Christ to the healing of the sick. Treated Miss Mays. Mrs. Hazlitt testified to treating Miss Lillian Mays in such a manner. She said that three treatments a day were administered and that no medicine was used. Miss Cora Hazlitt, a daughter of the defendant, and also an attendant, was on the stand and stated that she attended to Miss Mays who camo to the sanitarium about May 22, where she remained until her death, about two weeks later. Miss Hazlitt denied that whisky had been administered when the deceased was near death, or that a hot water bottle had been placed on her stomach at this time by her mother or any of the attendants. She said that the girl's parents placed a hot water bottle on her stomach when she was near death. The state closed its side of the case yesterday with the examination of witnesses who were directly familiar with the treatment of Lillian Mays, by Mrs. Hazlitt. All of the witnesses were New Castle parties. The attorneys most active in the case are John F. Robbins, for the defendant, and James Gavin of Indianapolis, acting for the State Medical society, on the prosecution. Mr. Gavin has been especially active in objecting to questions of defendant's counsel on direct examination. A E000 ATTRACTIOtJ First Number of Y. M. C. A. Entertainment Course Held Tonrht. FULLBACK KROMA IS ARRESTED! Man Wanted Here on Larceny Charge Is Held at Dayton, Ohio., HE IS A PAROLE VIOLATOR Word was received from the police authorities at Dayton this morning to the effect that Harmon Kroma, of Richmond, was arrested there. Offi cer Vogelsong was immediately dis patched to Dayton to get the prisoner and bring him to this city, where he is wanted on a charge of grand larceny. Kroma was released from the reformatory some time ago, but violated his parole. He is believed to have been implicated in the theft of bras3 from the Standard Pattern Manufacturing company several weeks ago. for which offense Earl Breese was sent ud for from one to fourteen years. A HORSE IS VICTIM Reports of hunters trespassing onto forbidden grounds, killing of dogs and. in one instance a horse, has reached the ears of the authorities. As yet no arrests have been made, although it is probable that such will follow, providing the identity of the hunters is revealed. Fred Bullerdick, living on the Middleborough pike, had a fine Scotch Collie dog killed yesterday. The dog, it seems, was in the field and hunters, espying an easy mark, took a shot at him with telling effects. It Is reported, although not confirmed, that i horse belonging to a family named Railsback, was killed by a stray bullet. JOSIE GREW ROWDY Josie Bond was arrested for public Intoxication fast night. Josie didn't want to be locked up a bit and was very rowdy with the officers. In the city court this alternoon in view of her previous convictions, she was fined $25 and costs and a day jail sentence was also added by Judge Converse. : :
