ASKS SETTLEMENT FOR SUSPENDERS Prominent Vaudeville Manager Is Being Sued for the Costly Pair.

PRESENT FROM ACTRESS

FRITZ KRULL Teacher of the Art of Staging. Indianapolis, 17 East North SL Bicbaond, Starr Piano Parlors, every Monday

SHE BOUGHT THE SUSPENDERS, STUDDED WITH DIAMONDS, ON INSTALLMENT PLAN BUT IS NOT PAYING FOR THEM.

(American News Service) Chicago, Nov. 6. The man with the

suspenders, or, should suspenders be ; mortgaged? is the subject of a very! stirring little drama in real llife in j which acob Stenard, manager of the western vaudeville association, is made defendant in a suit filed against him for balance of payment on t $125 pairt

of suspenders, having diamond buckles. 1

"I'm not the man with the suspenders," said Stenard when the writ was served on him. "You are the man with the suspenders," declared Attorney Bernard J. Brown, representing Herbert L. Joseph and company, the complainants. She Is a Young Thing. Stenard sniffed,, buttoned up hi3 coat and went into his private office, where hecalled up Miss Ruby Jackson. 21 years old, an actress. What the telephone conversation was has not become public, but the court papers indicate that Miss Jackson, on August 8, 1909, eecuted a mortgage, made a payment of $5 and secured a pair of diamond buckled suspenders with pretty pink silk designs worked through the strap. She ran breathlessly to Mr. Stenard's office and made him a present of the suspenders the documents show. Since then, it is alleged, she has not been able to keep up the payments for the suspenders she was buying on the installment plan. Stenard, it is declared, has in the meantime, used the suspenders for the practical purposes they were intended.

Tie Distance Lends Enchantment. Aa exact definition of a gentleman has been tried many times, never perhaps with entirely satisfactory results, little Sadie had never heard of any of the various definitions, bat she managed to throw a glean of light on the subject, albeit one touched with unconscious cynicism. The word was in the spelling lesson, and I said: "Sadie, what Is a gentleman T "Please, ma'am.' she answered, "a fentlexnan's a man yon dont know very well." Woman's Home Compan-
