Can the board of works legally

award the contract for the new hose

house on tne west side, if the contract

calls for an amount in excess of the

appropriation made by council for that

nurnose?

This question agitated the minds of members of the board at their regular

meeting this morning. Some time ago

council made an appropriation of $3,

(Kio for the erection of a hose house at the corner of West Fifth and Lincoln1

streets. Bids were were advertized for and received by the board today. However, none of the bids submitted came within the amount donated by council. The three cheapest bids received were those of W. F. Hendrix,

for $.".! i: Charles Lamb, for $4.42:

and Burr & Garner, for $4,224. All of

the bids are for the complete work. It

was the intention to award the con

until the question has been decided by

City Attorney T. J. Study.

Residents of West Richmond nave

been clamoring for better fire protec

contract is awarded the work will be rushed to completion. The building will be modern in every respect and

fully equipped.
