RANCHMEN ARE TO BLAME AND UNLESS CONDITIONS ARE CHANGED AMERICA WILL BECOME A MEAT IMPORTING COUNTRY. Chicago, Oct 19. Meat prices may temporarily be slightly reduced, but must ultimately advance to realms now undreamed of, if deductions of delsgates to the fourth annual convention of the American Meat Packers' Association, in session here, prove correct. According to General Michael Ryan, the president of the association, the ranchers are to blame for the present high-price conditions, and unless more cattle are raised America will actually be compelled to import meat to supply the home demand. "Conditions now are only the natural outcome of the failure of production io keep abreast of the progress of demand." said General Ryan, "and unless more cattle are raised there can be no hope for lower prices. More are being raised just now, but when the price goes down in accordance, they will stop the extra raising and high prices will be with us again. Unless conditions radically change. America will become an importer instead of an exporter of meats, and then it is now impossible to see to what point tb price will go. The whole solution rests with the raiser the ranchman. . Unless the housewives of America and the packers can Induce them to ralsa more stock for us. he will continue to hold aloft the scale of prices in spite of all we can do ALL WILL J At the meeting of the City Band last evening which organization has met with difficulty in participating In parades with union musicians, it was decided to join the musicians union. It is predicted that all non-union musicians will be in the organization within a month. Only one member of the City Band is opposed to the union. EPILEPTIC VILLAGE WORK. New Castle. Oct. 19. Darkness and silence greeted the marchers as they turned into the streets which are usually distinguished for their brilliance of llumination. Only occasionally could a ray be discerned between the shutters or from curtained windows. Like rats fleeing a sinking ship, the denizens of the houses of vice seemed to have scampered before the column of approaching revivalists. The police had done their work well Early in the day the order had gone (forth that it would be "close up and jStay closed for every joint and salioon in the district Instructions had been obeyed to the letter with but few exceptions. Marchers Carry Banners. Many of the marchers carried banners with inscriptions such as "The Wages of Sin Is Death." and others of like character. Crowds which lined the sidewalks jeered and hooted at many of the banners, but policemen quelled the shouters and prevented serious disorder. Saloons were doing a rushing business. In some of them the crowds were so great that many thirsty men stood on the sidewalk and clamored for admission. "It's an ill wind that blows nobody good, said the proprietor of a notorious saloon.
