I had many of the symptoms of hay fever and a doctor's prescription did not reach my case, and I took several medicines which seemed only to aggravate it. Fortunately. I insisted, upon having Foley's Honey and Tar. It quickly cured me. My wife has since used Foley's Honey and Tar with the same success." A. Q. Luken & Co. Municipal Amenities. Governor Marshall Issues Labor Day Proclamation

Indianapolis, Aug. 31. A copy of the Labor Day proclamation of Governor Marshall was received yesterday by hi3 secretary, Mark Thistlethwaite. The governor designates Monday, Sept. G. in the following words: From the beginning of time it has been part of the economy of life that mank should labor. He who fails to do his share shirks a duty and imposes a burden upon his fellow man. And yet this world-old custom has nowhere been dignified as it deserves save in the United States of America. Elsewhere it is not thought wrong that many should toil to create, while few should exist to destroy. In Indiana the honest son of toil who does an honest day's labor is a peer of our realm and should gather all the fruit of his toil untithed by adverse legislation. Such citizens should be esteemed and honored. The republic can survive loss of wealth and name, but honest toil of hand, and brain anJ heart, are vital to it. the Memory of Henry Hudson. To the end that those who love labor may not think their work forgotten, and in accordance with law and custom, I proclaim Monday, Sept. 0, 10OJ), a holiday. On that day let those who toil with their hands exult in their high calling; let those who toil with their brains seek the highest and best that truth can offer; and let all who love a country, the chief asset of which is character of its citizenship and sturdinees of its manhood, give every heartbeat to the prayer that the hour may soon come when industrial troubles will be settled, not by the law of the land, but by the law of universal brotherhood. May the day promote justice, charity and peace. In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused to be affixed the great seal of the state of Indiana, at the capitol in the city of Indianapolis, this 2Sth day of August, A. D., 1900. THOMAS R. MARSHALL, Governor. FRED A. SIMS, Secretary of State. The phenomenon will last about an hour, beginning in the longitude of Washington at 8:42 p. m., and ending at 9:30. At places West of Washington the occultation will occur earlier and at places east of Washington later. - The eclipse will be visible to the naked eye, but the use of a small field glass will bring it clearly within observation, is advised by Prof. Brooks. The Doctor Explained. The doctor had brought a patient tr the hospital. The operation was not to be a complicated one. "Was It really necessary for the patient to go to the hospital?" somebody asked. . " The doctor nodded. "Yes." he replied. "It means a roof for the new house I am building." Cleveland Plain Dealer. Indianapolis, Ind., Aug. 31. James F. Cox, of Columbus, today announced that he is a candidate for re nomination for secretary of state on the democratic ticket. "If they beat me they will have to make a fight," said Cox. The latter was on the ticket for secretary of state in the last two campaigns. "I am going to ask the people for what I am entitled to." declared Cos. "I know that I was elected in the la-st campaign, but was deprived of tho place. I believe the people generally feel that the entire democratic ticket was elected along with Governor Marshall, and that I will be able to win next year." Cox is not the only man on the democratic ticket in the last two campaigns who is to be a candidate for renomination. He says that Marion Bailey, of Hendricks county, is a can

didate again for auditor, but he does not know of any other of the old candidates who will want to try again. Favor New Material. There is considerable doubt whether or not leaders of the party like Governor Marshall will favor the renomination of the old candidates, as it is 6a id that they are trying to induce entirely new men to enter the race, believing that a "new broom sweeps clean," and that new men will stand a better chance of election. Representative Harry Strickland, of Greenfield, who was here today, says that Representative John B. Faulknor, of Michigan City, more than likely will be a Candidate for secretary of state oa the democratic side. Richard Milburn, of Jasper, announced today that he will be a candi date for the democratic nomination for Attorney-General. He formerly represented Dubois and Pike counties in the senate, where he was one of the party's leaders. Representative Adam Wise, of Plymouth, probably will be a candidate for the democratic nomination for attorney-general. Word has been received here that Governor and Mrs. Marshall will return to Indianapolis the latter part of this week. The governor has been spending the last month at Tetoskey, Mich.
