WHICH CAUSED THE FRIGHTENED GROOM TO QUAKE AT THE KNEES IRATE PARENT DRAWS v A $10 FINE. New York, Aug. 26. If you come home unexpectedly and find your daughter kissing her husband good night it isn't at all a clubby thing to do to get mad and order him out of the house and threaten to shoot him, even It you haven't been informed beforehand that you have a son-in-law. R Ib a wise precaution to pause a moment, count ten, .and find out if your family has really been increased thuswise, else you areliable to get in trouWe In a police court, as Raymond Dare did in Newark- today. Mt. Dare who is a prosperous merchant with a handsome home at 11 Bast Park street, Newark, found his pretty daughter Marjorie kissing young Eugene Everson behind the front door when he came in Sunday night, and he promptly blew up with a loud noise soto speak. A Young Upstart. "You young upstart," he stormed. "You you how dare you kiss my daughter? And you, Miss! Are you out of. your head? Goto your room before I forget myself!" "It's ail right, papa," stammered Marjorie. "Don't get-excited of course I kiss 'Gene; he's -my " ButMr.Dare would hear no explanations. , ' j "It's 'all'- right, Is it?" he cried. "Well, I'll show you! Get out of my house, .you -vagabond !' And then he ran and got his shotgun although Mrs. Dare came out of her room and told'hlmthat Marjorie and young Everson had been married secretly since August' 15, when they went to Caldwell. Ni J., and visited the Rev. Wyckford C. Timbrel. Even that didn't mollify him and Mrs. Dare ran down the street and got Policemen Bauman and Weber who took the gun away from him and arrested him. The case came up in the First precinct police court today and Mrs. Dare In tears told the story. "I don't see why he should raise such a row becausefMarjorie was secretly married," she said, "because he and I were married several months 'before we told anybody about 1 it. And anyway he never objected torf Eugene before. Dare seemed to be sorry land said he didn't remember gettingthe gun. He said he was so exeltedv when he found his daughter kissing a young man that he did not knowwhat he was doing. He was fined ferarising a disturbance. '

JOHNSON TRAINING

MARY NAUGHTY GIRL

Mary Columbus, the gypsy girl who flecked a ten dollar bill from a farmer east of the city a few weeks ago while telling him his fortune, but who wa3 apprehended before she got away with the money has been arrested at Jasper for a similar offense. She was not arrested in this city as the band of which she was a member got beyond the jurisdiction of the local authorities before the matter was reported. At Jasper she was fined $10 and costs which was promptly paid by her father. Judging from the alacrity with which the father paid the fine, the vocation of his daughter is a very profitable one to the band. The girl approaches a stranger and asks for a match following which informal introduction she offers to tell his fortune. It is necessary that she hold her victim's purse during the fortune telling stunt. She then unobserved by her victim dextrously relieves the purse of a bill or two.

(American News Service) San Francisco, Aug. 26. For the first time since he won the world's heavyweight championship by defeating Burns in Australia, Jack Johnson began active training today at Cockrells quarters across the bay, in preparation for his fight with Al Kaufman. Johnson did not try to do . heavy work yesterday, but started road work and punched the bag for an hour. Then he did some light sparring. Johnson was up with the sun this morning and cheerfully set out with Bob Armstrong, formerly the training partner of . Stanley Ketchel, who is here to help the big negro. Kaufman will not be seen in action by the local camp followers until Monday when he comes over from Boyes Springs to his old grounds upon the Colma road.

SENATOR SAYS HIS VISIT WITH THE TRUST MAGNATE HAS NO POLITICAL SIGNIFICANCE BEVERLY GOSSIP. (American News Service) Beverly, Mass., Aug. 26. Senator Nelson Aldrich of Rhode Island is in Beverly today aivd this afternoon i3 to call upon President Taft. He asked for . an appointment and the presumption is that he wishes to make some recommendations in regard to the appointment of tariff experts. Senator Aldrich also wishes to see the president in regard to the appointment of a census supervisor from Rhode Island where the Aldrich and opposing faction each have candidates. Aldrich is a guest of Henry

Clay Frick at the Frick residence.

Eagle Rock. He is an old friend of the trust magnate and his visit to Frick has nothing political in connection with it, he told the reporters. Liked by President. That the Nor'h Shore is liked by the president as an ideal place for his summer home is attested by the report that lie intends to lease for next year the Evans estate adjoining his present home at Burgess Point. Mrs. Evans, widow of Rebert D. Evans, who died early in July, intends to spend next summer abroad and the house, one of the finest on the North Shore, will be vacant. It is this estate which President Taft is said to be desirous of leasing. Rumor goes further and says should he move into his Evans estate, his brother, Charles P. Taft, will give up his present summer home at Murray Bay, Canada, and rent the Stetson cottage which his brother, the president now occupies. Both estates are closely adjoining properties.

What time on washday do you get through with your washing? Ten o'clock, noon, three o'clock or night? If you do it the old-fashioned, boiling, hot water, hard rubbing way, you're lucky to get it done by sundown. If you wash the Fels-Naptha way in cool or lukewarm water without boiling or hard rubbing, you can be done well before noon and take it easy all the time. And your clothes will be cleaner, J fresher, sweeter than ever before. Fels-Naptha Soap is a great time-saver. ' In Winter and Summer. A half-day every washday means twenty six days a year saved by washing with Fels-Naptha Soap. Isn't that worth while in addition to the saving on clothes, fuel, health and labor? Time is money.
