' Work on double tracking the India
aapolls division of the Pennsylvania
railroad company between this city and Indianapolis, which has been in
progress for several weeks, is being
hurried as fast as possible. ' The com
pany expects to have the work com pleted by fall and already has several gangs of men employed at different
points along the division.
The double tracking of the entire system, it is believed, will follow. Already the company has double track ed the principal divisions of its Eastern lines. It Is being done in order to increase the schedules, economize and to insure greater safety both to the public and the company. At Jackson's Hill. The work is in charge of the officials of the Indianapolis division with headquarters , at Columbus, O. Little is known by the local officials as to the exact nature of the improvement or the progress made. However it is understood that the company has removed nearly a :: hundred thousand yards of dirt in widening and cutting down Jackson's , hill and a relative large amount on the steep grade near Dublin. These two grades are the steepest between this city and Indianapolis and, it is understood, the. present grade will be reduced as much as practicable. - The right of way will have to be widened as a - consequence of the double tracking of the division. Farmers in Wayne and Henry county whose farms abutt on the company's lines have been approached and offers made to buy land. The company
officials do not expect much difficulty to arise in securing the necessary
land. However they are prepared to bring condemnation suits if necessary. : Straighten Out Line. , ' It is said that the company will
straighten its right of way wherever possible and in a few places along the line will have their right of way in an entirely new location. Attention
will be paid to the straightening of
the smaller as . well as the larger
curves, it is said.
.The construction gangs have not begun work around Richmond as yet However it would not be surprising to local railroaders to receive orders
con to begin on the big fill, just north of Olen Miller lake. This land was purchased last summer from the city by the company. It is understood
that the company will straighten its tracks between the east end yards and
Nineteenth street.

The Roberts Park Choral Society of
Indianapolis, one of the . largest and best known singing organisations in the state, came by special interurban this morning from Indianapolis, and
were taken directly to Olen Miller where they will spend the afternoon. They will take supper at the Country club and tonight they will give a con
cert at the Reid Memorial church. ,
This society is under the direction
of Mr. Edward Taylor, and is .doing an excellent work. It is their custom each
year to hold an outing, and Richmond
is fortunate in having them come to
spend the day at Glen Miller and
thus give the music lovers opportunity
to hear them in concert.
Mr. Leo Rlggs, organist of the new
Baptist church. Indianapolis, will be at the organ, and this will be a treat
to those who know the Reld organ.
Mr. Law, tenor, Mr. Grimes, bary
tone, and Miss Kller, violinist, will be
heard with great pleasure by their nu
merous friends in this city -
Mr. Taylor, director of this organisa
tion, is a ' thorough musician and a
tireless worker, and is gaining a foothold in the vocal work, in Richmond.

Vancouver, B. C, June 23. Six masked men held up the wrong train last night at Kamloops, British Columbia, and by doing so lost, their opportunity to take possession of ninety bars of silver bullion. After they had ransacked" three cars and found noth
ing of value,' they were. forced to fly
on account of the approach of a posse,
and escaped narrowly by taking to a
skiff and rowing across Shush a wp lake to safety.
Train No. 97 of the Canadian Pa
cific was proceeding along on schedule
time when the hold-op occurred. A few minutes ahead was the mail train bearing the fortune in bullion. . At Ducks station the engineer observed men ! laying a tie across the track. He attempted to run them down, when a volley from rifles and six shooters brought him to a halt. At once the men boarded the engine, and
while two of them -held the engineer
and fireman under the cover of revolv
ers, the other bandits went through
the remainder of the train. The bag'
gage car was entered, but the coveted
silver was not discovered. 8earch Passenger Coaches.
, Thinking that perhaps the metal had been concealed in some other part of the train, the desperadoes searched the passenger. coaches. Strange . to say.
they did not attempt to relieve the pas sengers of, any money ; or jewelry.
In the meantime the engineer had surreptitiously hurried down the track to give the alarm. A posse was hastily formed and a -hundred armed men proceeded toward the scene of the hold-up at a double quick. " v - The robbers were just completing their search when the posse arrived. Immediately they broke for the lake. Evidently a skiff .had been 'placed on the bank to convey them across. The robbers were quickly In the boat and exchanging shots wlth'v their pursuers, they rowed furiously toward the other side of the lake. . f , The railroad v authorities; say that nothing is missing. - : '
