PHONE 1637 TRACE OF CLARA TYRRELL IS LOST Former Richmond Woman Left Anderson to Avoid Notoriety. DID NOT JOIN HUSBAND IT IS REPORTED THAT SHE IS IN ONE OF THE LARGER CITIES AND IS EARNING LIVING AS A STENOGRAPHER. The newest development in the re cently sensational elopement of Miss Clara Tyrrell, of Anderson, formerly of this city, is a letter said to have been received by an Anderson friend. The young woman is declared to have ran away from Anderson to avoid the notoriety incident upon her elopment and subsequent horns bringing, by her father. The young woman married a Dr. L. Roy, but it is said she is not with him now. An Anderson account says: About two weeks ago, after she had been returned to her home in this city by her father W. H. Tyrrell, superintendent of the Western Union Telegraph company and apparently settled down she sprang into the lime light again by skipping the city and leaving scarcely a trace of her whereabouts. It was i presumed naturally that she intended joining her husband, Dr. L. Roy, who had gone to Chicago, after being bailed out of jail at Rockford, 111. Is Working. It is learned today from an Anderson party who is believed to be corresponding with Miss Tyrrell that she did not runaway with the intention of joining her husband. It is claimed that she secured a railroad ticket to Detroit, Mich., for a blind, but instead went an entirely different direction. It is said that she left Anderson to get away from the unpleasantness of notoriety and seek new quarters where no one would annoy her. She is reported to be well situated with a large firm in a city many miles from Anderson, drawing $50 a month as stenographer and living under another name than either Clara Tyrrell or Mrs. Roy.

TO HELP RURAL CARRIERS GARY DEFEATED INDIANAPOLIS FOR NEXT MEETING PLACE BY THE 8WEET WARBLING OF A. G. LUNDQUIST.
Indianapolis May 27. The presidential postmasters in this state are in favor of good roads. They talked over the subject at their meeting in this city and it was practically decided that the Presidential Postmasters association will appoint a legislative committee which will go before the next session of the legislature and seek to have some good roads legislation passed. Numerous changes in the present laws will be recommended and an effort will be made to have such provisions made as will guarantee good roads over which the rural route carriers may travel. In many parts of the state the rural carriers are obliged to work, on bad roads. It is to remedy such conditions that the association will take steps. The rural free delivery service has had such a wonderful mushroom growth and has developed, so rapidly that it has been difficult for some of the counties to keep up with the requirements, so far as good roads are concerned. This has caused muci complaint on the part of the rural carriers, and the postmasters hope to bring about relief for them. Oh You Gary Town! The victory of Gary over Indianapolis for the honor of entertaining the next annual convention of the post masters was due principally to the ef forts of A. G. Lundquist, postmaster at Indiana Harbor. Lundquist appeared in the Denison hotel lobby all during the convention, singing "I love you, Indianapolis, but, oh, you Gary." He told the postmasters to come to Gary next year and see a city "that has a population of 15,000 at night and 30,000 In the daytime. When the vote was taken Lundquist won for Gary by a vote of 38 to 24. One of the most important matters the postmasters considered at their meeting was the proposition to have rural carriers placed under the civil service rules, carriers to be selected after examinations and being placed on the eligible list. It is the intention of the Indiana postmasters to lay the matter before the posoffice department and see if it can not be put into effect. RICHMOND PEOPLE GOOD DRESSERS Very few cities in the United States can show as many well-dressed people as Richmond, a large per cent, of the men having their clothes made to order. Men can get fine suits made for $15, $18 or 20, when the Bame goods a few years ago cost almost twice as much. For several years Emmons Tailoring Co. have been making fine suits at $15, $18 and $20, and the business has increased every year. They are now showing the largest stock they have ever shown. Over 600 styles in spring suitings. Where she is no one seems to know. Her getaway is a mystery and her present location cannot be discovered. Her parents, it is learned have no trace of her, but are making a strenuous effort to find her location. The young lady is said to be making equally as earnest an effort to lose herself. Postal authorities are said to' be assisting Mr. Tyrrell? the father. Dr. I Roy. It is reported that Dr. L. Roy had remained in Chicago enjoying peaceful freedom only a short time when he was taken back to Rockford, 111., again' and thrust in jail. At the present time he is said to be in jail and having no correspondence with the Anderson young lady. He claims to have no idea of her whereabouts. Closed All Day Decoration Day

Blind Pair Marry; Witness To Ceremony Is Sightless
Pottsville, Pa.. May 27. Ovid B. Comfort, of Shenandoah, formerly of Tioga county, this state, and Miss Ella Shirey of Overbrook, Philadelphia, both of whom are blind, were married by Justice of the Peace F. S. Freller, of this city, today, after a brief, but happy courtship. - Armed with a marriage license issued by the register of wills of this county, and accompanied- by a witness, a young woman also totally blind, the merry party entered the office of the justice of the peace. But there were other witnesses present, for at the time there was a con ference of a dozen justices of the peace being held in reference to the correction of alleged evils in the prac tice of the office, who quietly looked on with some envy as Justice Freller MILITARY SYSTEM. Tits Way Germany Handles Hsr Reserves In Cass of War. Nobody who has visited Germany can fall to have been struck by tbe large official signboards at the entry to each town or village. These contain full Information as to exactly which official in tbe community to applysto should the magic word "mobilize" be spoken. Wherever the German reservist may chance to be when tbe order to mobilize is given assuming, of course, that he is not out of the country he has only got to ask tbe first Inhabitant or walk to the end of the village and look at the directions on the board to find out his own particular place in the military scheme. He will see that he must go to Herr Schmidt, at 40 Sctratzen street. Herr Schmidt will tell him exactly In which town he has to go In order to rejoin his own unit and,, what is still more important, will give him the money and the railway pass to take him there. Arrived at his destination, be will find his uniform, arms and accouterments piled neatly in a heap, with a label bearing bis name and regimental number on tbe top of tbe heap. He has only to put It on and take his place among the comrades with whom be did bis military service some years ago. This destination was arranged upon many years back, and tbe exact time schedule' for inarching and railway journeys was compiled long since. Pearson's Weekly. THE BASQUES.
