BIG CONVENTION AT WILLIAMSBURG County Sunday School Workers Meeting This Week. Delegates to the Wayne County Sunday School association, which convenes at Williamsburg tomorrow and continues in session through Wednesday, have been selected by the local Sunday schools. It ic probable that Richmond will send a delegation of 200 on Wednesday evening as Mr. Meigs of Indianapolis, a state worker, will deliver an address. A special train will leave the C. C. & L. depot at 6:30 in the evening. KNIGHTS ATTENDED CHUnCHYESTCRDAY Richmond Commandery Hears Huntington's Sermon. Richmond Commandery No. 8. Knights Templar, attended church services at St Paul's Episcopal church yesterday morning In a body. "Heroism Through Humility and Endurance" was the subject of the sermon delivered by Rev. D. C. Huntington, pastor of the church. Music including several special numbers by the choir and a solo by Miss Josephine Cates was a feature of the services. CASE IS POSTPONED The case of the state vs. Byram Robbing, charged with assault and' battery on Joaiah B. Gordon is continued indefinitely. ' Gordon remains at home. FOR WIDE DISTRIBUTION The contract for the printing of souvenir programs of the general synod meeting of, the Lutheran church of the United States, has been let by E. M Haas, general chairman. There will be about l.tM copies printed, and distributed among the delegates, and also to Lutherans all over the United States. The program will include about 50 pages of matter. Cuts cf the local churches, with a history of each will be given as well as & general outline of the program. A history of the city likewise will be given. The histories of the churches will no doubt interest others than delegates to the synod meeting. Several instances of trouble between the pastors and the congregation of St Paul's Lutheran church are referred to. HAMMOND DECLINES Washington. May 24. John Hays Hammond talked with the president for two hours today. He later declined the job of Minister to China. A RECEIVER ASKED Chicago, May 24. Appointment of receiver for the H. V. Dudley Coffee company, a half million dollar corporation, was petitioned for today by a number of stockholders who allege misconduct on the part of officers of the company. "High finance" methods are alleged. WHAT TAFT THINKS Washington, May 24. It was announced at the white house today that the president expects" congress to adjourn by July 1. He is making plan3 accordingly. He bad conferences with several senators and representatives. RETURN INDICTMENT. Mrs. Effie Bertsch of Centerville has been indicted by the federal grand jury for using the mails for objectionable purposes. It is not known when she will be arraigned before Judge Anderson of the federal court at Indianapolis, although it is probable that it will be during the month of June. V0SLER MAKES A REPORT From many standpoints, the past week was an almost ideal one, the weather report of meteorological observer, Walter Vosler, showing that the majority of the days were fairly warm and there was but little rain. In respect to the - character of the days, the report 6hows Sunday, Wednesday and Saturday were partly cloudy, Monday and Tuesday Clear and Thursday and Friday cloudy. RAMLER The funeral of Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Ramler who died last week at the home of her daughter. George Bayer, a well known young man of this city, while fishing at Abington yesterday, caught a five and half pound bass, the largest catch so far reported this season. Several smaller sized bass were caught also. The big passenger steamer "Western States." while entering the harbor tbis morning ran into and sunk the tug "Princeton."
