Today's session was consumed in the propounding of a ten thousand word hypothetical question. All the alienists gave' it as their opinion that Hains was suffering from maniac depressive insanity, when he shot Billy Annis. - Couldn't Lift It. LOOK FOR A GOOD LEADER JEFFERSON CLUB HELD A MEETING LAST NIGHT AND DlSCUSb PARTY'S CHANCES AGAINST DR. W. W. ZIMMERMAN. At the meeting of the Jefferson club last evening, matters pertaining to the success of the democrats at the coming city election in November was discussed. The demand that the Bayer and Schillinger factions get together and harmonize things within the party was made, providing the party expects to have any success whatever against the republican candidate, Dr. W. W. Zimmerman. Factions Are Apart. The possibility of the. two factions getting . together seems improbable at the present time, as they seem to dis agree on the best candidate to put in the race.' Jacob Lichtenfelts has been mentioned as the most logical leader to bring both factions together, but some of the . members of the party state that he could not poll the "dry" votes, owing to his affiliation with & local brewery. Charles Beck, who was county chairman at the national election, is a probable candidate of one faction, while the other Is boosting C. E. Merrill, city clerk. Seevral prominent members of the party do not see how either of the two last named stand any show in landing the nomination unless the element of good fortune plays as prominent a part for Merrill as it did with his selection as ' city clerk.
