voting pises. Rewards of $100 and $200 were offered for the arrest and conTlctlon of any person for illegal
voting, and it is believed this had Its
effect. ... Factory Districts Go "Dry." The greatest surprise of the day was in the great Inroads made in "wet" territory by the Prohibitionists. Ralph Rosa, chairman of the "wet" organisation, asserted the "wets" would win every Munoie and Center township precinct until the returns began to come in. But In the Seventh and Ninth precincts in the south side factory districts, the "dry" majorities were respectively 77 and 71. - In Huncles tenderloin district the "wet" leaders asserted the vote would show three to one against prohibition. The figures, however, returned a majority of 92 "wet" out of 416 votes. In the suburbs of Wbiteley, where there is a large colored population and where the "wets" expected a large majority, the returns show a lead of 8T for the "drys." This defeat - came with crushing effect,.' for the returns were known early. ty' : The outlying townships depended upon from the first by the "dry" organisation, remained true to their colors. They have been "dry" by remonstrance for several months and gave the optionists majorities averaging throughout the county more than two to one.
The best residence section of Muncie
declared against the saloon by small
majorities, and the precinct including the business section gave the "wets" a
majority of 43 votes only. . Wild Scenes at "Dry" Headquarters.
To say that the men of Muncie who
have been working without regard to private business affairs, without re
gard for social obligations and without a selfish interest in the result were delighted last night is putting It mildly. As the majority rolled up to a grand
total which has not yet been equaled
in the state the scene at the "dry" headquarters became one of wild en
thusiasm that beggars description. Men
stood on tables and chairs and cheered themselves hoarse. - There were ministers and laborers m the crowd side by side with men of
wealth and comparative paupers. They
threw their hats aloft and gave vent to such feelings as are born only of great political victory.

ous efforts of both "wet" and "dry" or
ganizations to get out voters. It
reained early In the morning and the temperance forces viewed the lowering clouds with fear. But toward the noon hour the sun broke through the
clouds and with redoubled vigor, be
lieving in the good omen, the "dry" workers renewed efforts to bring out every vote in the county. No Trouble at Polling Places. Polling places through the county were surrounded by crowds throughout the day and excitement ran high. There was little or no disorder, however. Two arrests were made for attempted illegal voting. One of the men arrested was a colored porter employed in a local hotel the proprietor of which has been prominent in the "wet" organization. At several of the precincts the "dry" officials challenged many who attempted to vote. At one uptown precinct about 100 were challenged. They represented the floating "wet" vote and when challenged quietly left the
