As the result of alleged abuses of public office by the men entrusted them, a civic league is being organized at Peru. The town was thrown into excitement recently by, the reported shortage of the may or. The offices have been controlled by tbe democrats for many years, and it is claimed the security of the party bear been responsible for what shortcomings may exist. The civic league Is to be copied in its organization after the famous band of San Francisco reformers, who made a cleanup in tbe western : metropolis, it is hinted that not only will the books be looked after but irregularities In procedure on the part of officials is to be investigated. Those interested in the matter say they are making no charges, simply wanting an investigation and publication of results. LEARNING THINGS We are all in the Apprentice Class. , ' When a simple change of diet brings back health and happiness the story is briefly told. A lady of Springfield, 111.; says: "After being afflicted for years with nervousness and heart trouble, I received a shock four years ago that left me in such a condition that ' my life was despaired of. "I could get no relief from doctors nor from the numberless heart and nerve remedies I tried, because I didn't know that coffee was daily putting me back: more than the doctors could put me ahead. "Finally at the request of a friend I left oft coffee and began the use of Postum and against my convictions I gradually Improved in health until for the past 6 or 8 months I have been entirelyfree from nervousness and those terrible sinking, weakening spells of heart trouble. - "My troubles all came from the use of coffee which I had drank from childhood and yet they disappeared when I quit coffee and took up the use of Postum." 12&ny people marvel at the effects of '; leaving off coffee and drinking Posttua, but there is nothing marvelous about it only common sense. Coffee is a destroyer Postum is" a rebuilder. That's the reason. : Lock to pkgs. for the famous little book, "Tli Road to WellviUe." Ever read the above letter? A new appears from time to time. FIGHTING BOB IS IJICHI'S FRIEND Yankee Admiral Gives a Warm Greeting to Japanese Sailor. SAY WAR IS IMPOSSIBLE ORIENTAL TAR TELLS SCRAPPY AMERICAN HOW THE JAPS RAISED SUNKEN SHIPS AT PORT ARTHUR. Los Angeles, Cal., April 27. Rear Admiral H. E. Ijichi, commander of the. Japanese training squadron now at San Pedro, had a long talk yesterday with Rear Admiral Robley D. Evans. The two rear admirals, who are old friends and who are staying at the same hotel, discussed international questions, including the possibility of war between the United States and Ja pan. They agreed that war between the two nations is impossible. Admiral Ijichi told Admiral Evans he was delighted with his reception at Los Angeles. He commented upon the apparent friendliness of the officials as well as the press and public, and predicted that he and his men. would be equally well received at other American ports. Raising Sunken Russian Ships. "I would like to know," Inquired Admiral Evans, "how your people succeeded in raising the Russian ships which you sunk and in what condition you found them." Admiral Ijichi replied: "We raised the sunken battleships and cruisers at Port Arthur and Chemulpo without any great difficulty. We found those at Port Arthur were not sunk by the mortar fire directed upon them from 203 Meter Hill. None of the shells penetrated the protected decks, although the superstructure and gun mountings were shattered badly. "The ships were sunk by the Hussions by opening the seacocks when they found the port must fall into our hands. After raising the ships we found that the projectiles had' pene trated the wooden decks, but had flattened out against the steel and were lying there. It evidently would not have been possible to sink the ships by the fire from the heights. TO MUCH MARRIED SHE TRIES SUICIDE Peru Woman Finds Matrimony A Failure. Peru, Ind., April 27. Three times married has been too many for Mrs. Jesse Osborn of this place. Neither attempt resulted in that peace of mind she . sought most, and twice she has attempted suicide. The last attempt was made yesterday afternoon, when she shot herself through the mouth with a 33 caliber revolver. The bullet missed the brain, however, and she still lives. She has been married to Osborn only two weeks. Her husband left her for reasons she does not tell and she determined to end everything. The former attempt at alette su & JafchlS cmrbolic add.

AGAIN 0IPAY BOLL Two Discharged Revenue Officers Have Been Reinstated. ACTION IS A SURPRISE (Special Correspondent.) Indianapolis, April 27. A. A. Phillips, of Noblesville, and A. Elliottr"of Falrmount, two former revenue office employes at Lawrenceburg, who are let out last fall during the heat of the political campaign, have been notified from Washington that they have been reinstated in their positions. The word came as a surprise to the politicians of this city. Elam Neal, revenue collector for the Sixth district, said that last year reports reached him that the two men were traveling around over the state doing political work, and that he understood that this was the cause of their being let out. It was reported that the men sent in their expense accounts to the govern ment while they were doing the politi cal work, but Neal says he never heard of that feature of the case. Anyhow, they are to go back to work with their records cleared. A representative ; of the Government went to Lawrenceburg some time ago and investigated the case, and it was on his report that the reinstatements were made. People past middle life usually iave some kidney or bladder disorder that saps the vitality, which is naturally lower in old age. Foley's Kidney Remedy corrects urinary troubles, stimulates the kidneys, and restores strength and vigor. It cures uric acid troubles by strengthening the kidneys so they will , strain out the uric acid that settles in the muscles and joints causing rheumatism. A. G. Luken ft Co. RICHMOND PEOPLE GOOD DRESSERS Very few cities in the United States can show as many well-dressed people as Richmond, a large per cent, of the men having their clothes made to order. Men can get fine suits made for 15, $1S or $20, when the same goods a few years ago cost almost twice as much. For several years Emmons Tailoring Co. have been making fine suits at $15, $18 and $29, and the business - has increased every year. They are ; now showing the largest stock ' they have ever shown. Over 600 styles in spring suitings. T-." hesitated Mr. Justwed. "these biscuits are pretty good. . but don't you think there ought to be just a little more" "Tour mother made them." Interrupted Mrs. J. quickly. "of them?" ended Mr. J, with flash of Inspiration. Cleveland Leader. ' During the spring every one would be benefitted by taking Foley's Kidney Remedy. It furnishes a needed tonic - to the kidneys after the extra strain of winter, and it purifies the blood by stimulating the kidneys, and causing them to eleminate the Impar ities from it. NEW RECRUITS TO TEMPERANCE ARMY

Jackson and White Yesterday Returned Handsome Majorities for "Drys." BOTH FIGHTS WARM ONES TODAY THE EYES OF THE STATE ARE TURNED ; MUNCIEWARD, WHERE FIERCEST OPTION BATTLE IS RAGING. DRY MAJORITIES MONDAY. Jackson County ............ 371 White County ..............1,439 By the vote of Jackson and White counties yesterday forty-four counties have chosen the temperance side of the option issue, declaring against the licensed saloons. In Jackson county there are now twenty-five saloons, all but one being in Seymour. - In White county there are but two saloons and these of only recent -. Installation, since the county had previously been dry" by remonstrance. Some of the remonstrance were recently held in- j effective, thus permitting bars to be opened. - - -' - .. In neither of the counties yesterday was there anything in the nature of fraudulent work, so far as. has been disclosed, and in each county the pleasant weather added to the activities of the factions. Automobiles were used to get out the farmer vote, and in White county, especially, a firm of automobile agents donated machines to convey the rural voters and no Questions were asked as to whether tbe passengers thus conveyed to the polls were "yes" or no. It is believed this action increased the percentage of the vote considerably. ; . . ' "- Delaware in Limelight Today. The eyes of the state are today on Delaware county, with Muncie as the county seat, on account of the option election which is . being held there. The fact that Muncie is the largest city in Indiana in which the option issues have been put to a vote created an unusual amount of interest throughout the state from "wets" and "drys" alike. v - Rival factions have just closed a strenuous campaign in Delaware county and the work today will be devoted in just as strenuous manner to getting out the full vote. There is a wide difference in the predictions of the faction leaders, and these forecasts last night ranged , all the way from 1.500 "wet" to 2,500 dry." The result in Delaware county in an probability will have a deep effect on nearby counties which are expected to hold elections soon, especially is this true In reference to Madison county, with Anderson the county seat. So deep is the interest in Madison con cerning the Delaware result that it is freely predicted if Delaware votes "wet" Madison county optho workers may not attempt to call fin election, although petitions are now" being circulated and have more, than enough signatures, according to Oe reports, to procure the option vote.
