Indianapolis, Feb. 16. "When no one was looking Senator "Durre pushed the Sunday baseball bill "engrossment In the senate yesterday afternoon. The opposition was asleep at the switch and the bill went by. Durre is the chairman of the committee that had the bill in , charge and signed' the "majority report in favor of passage. During the afternoon when none , of , the opponents of the bill were around he had the bill read byt title. and the bill ,went to engrossment without argument and without any one paying any attention to what Jt was.. The bill is now ready for pas-teago-"within the next few days. ..Prev'8'on8 ' Law. . The governor signed the bill yesterday afternoon that places Fort Wayne and South Bend in the second class of cities. The biii is now a law. Under this, law these two cities are elevated to the second class and Elwood and Jeffersonville are lowered to the fifth class. It provides also that in cities of the third class the city shall not have a city judge, city controller or board of public works unless by special ordinance of council. Where no controller fa appointed the clerk shall .perform the duties of that office. The mayor doese work of the city Judge, and the mayor, city engineer, and one commissioner shall constitute the .board of works where the council so decides. Cities Classified. The "bill classifies the pities of the state as fololws: Second class, ' those having a' population of 35,000 to 10O,000; third , class, , 20,000 to So.OTfi: fourth class, 10,000 to 20,000 w lithe city has an assessed valuation oi more than $5,000,000; fifth class, all other cities below the fourth : class. Indianapolis constitutes the first class! .The Stotsenburg bill was intended to take care of the .cities of the third class and relieve them of the burdens of which they have been complaining in the way of unnecessary offices. The Thornton bill In the house, is to take care of the fourth class cities and the bill Introduced by Representative Elliott of South Bend, is to take care of the cities of the fifth, . class. , , These bills all make changes, in the cities and towns law, not only regarding the offices,, but. in relation to street and eewer assessments and other matters connected with the city government It is the understanding that all these bills are to pass.

' Telegrams sent to the American consul at Acapulco asking for the names of the American dead have as yet not been replied to.. Acapulco, on the west coast of the state of Guerrero, is one of the three Important ports of the Pacific coast of Mexico.
