FIIIISHES WORK Noted Evangelist Has Added Ninety-six People to the Church of God. HIS LAST MEETING SUNDAY 1MMEN8E CONGREGATION HEARS EXCELLENT ADORE88 AND WITNESSES RECEPTION TO THE CONVERTS. Last night marked the end of the revival meeting in the First Christian Church. A total of ninety-six people were reached by the gospel's power. As has been, frequently noted in the course of the press reports the preponderance of these, ninety of them, were adults. Notwithstanding the Inclemency of the weather the church was crowded to the doors last night and every available seat was taken. Mr. Brown' took as his subject "Christ In the Home," and worked out of it a very practical appeal to parents to place every safeguard about their children. Evangelist Roy It. Brown is not a professional evangelist but Is a pastor. He has a leave of absence of six months from his congregation at BellAfontaine O., and this is the way that he proposes to spend his time. As the time drew near for him to close the meeting he confessed to some misgiving in his heart as to accepting an invitation to come back to his old home to hold a meeting. But he came, and those who were nearest him and best understood the field in which he was to work, pronounce his efforts signally successful. Instead of the former acquaintance with the boy being against the efforts o the man, he was able in i'is appeals time and again to turn it to his advantage. t the close of the service last night the pastor of the church, the Rev. S. fW. Traum took occasion to express the appreciation of the congregation for the part that Mr. Brown had been able to take. At the close of these remarks the people gave the evangelist the "Chautauqua salute." Mr. Brown tenderly addressed the people for a few moments and then came the fellowship service. All the new converts were placed in line beginning at the front of the pulpit, extending clear about it, and then south throughout the length of the Sunday school room, and along the south wall of the church. While the choir sang appropriate songs, the pastor followed by the elders and deacons and later by the congregation and friends nresent. nassed alone the line and shook hands with eahc one. It was a happy crowd that composed the throng, and those who were the oldest In the service confessed that they had never seen it in this way before. ; Mr. Brown left this morning for his home, and on Wednesday night of this week begins at Unlopolis, O., and later goes to the Metropolitan church of Christ in Chicago. ' The Man Who Eats Well And Enjoys Pood Lives Life As Should And Gets The Most From It. He -fhe man who eats is the man who works, and the man who works is the man who wins. Tireless workers de pend upon a storehouse of vim and vigor. India is noted for its fasters and Its dreamers, Europe and Am erica for their eaters and workers. In America we have been doing nothing but work this past quarter of a century. That is why our old men say "In my days no one had dyspepsia. of course all men in those days ate and worked now they work and eat. - It eating interferes with business, men give up eating. This is good logic for . the dollar getter, but poor wisdom for the man who really wants, to live. Abuse of anything God given results 'in punishment, and man is a . pigmy when it comes to cheating his system. If you take from the system that which is intended sould remain, or put Into that which is intended should be kept out you are cheating yourself, and sooner or later pay the penalty. Stuart's Dyspepsia Tablets, are con centrated vegetable and fruit essences which give the system every fluid, stimulant and ingredient necessary to gam tne ruiiest strength irom every thing which goes into the stomach, or to keep from the system everything which should lay and decay in it. If you will eat fast and improperly, If you will eat and drink irregularly and to excess, then give to nature as you do so enough of the essences she demands to neutralize the bad effects of your habits. After a meal take a Stuart Dyspep eia Tablet, and the meal wont hurt you or your stbmach. At a midnight dinner take a Stuart tablet and you will sleep well and get up without a breath which is filled with the dfecay of the midnight meal. Fortify your stomach like you do your business. Fortunes when lost can be regained,. but the stomach outraged stays with you to the finish, and you know It is there. If you want to know what these tablets will do, buy a package from any druggist, price 50 cents, or send us your name and address and we will send you a trial package free by mail. Address F. A. VERY GREAT DEMAND Inaugural Committee Has Been Besieged for Reviewing Stand Seats. WILL ACCOMMODATE 6,000 Washington, Feb. 13. So many applications have been received by the inaugural committee 'for seats in the great stand which seats 6,000 persons and which is directly opposite the point where the president will view the parade, March 4, after he has been Inaugurated, that the committee does not know how to apportion the appll cations. Seats in the great stand are sold for $3, $4 and $5. Applications for reservation of seats have come in so fast in the last few days that the committee has not been able to keep record of them, and there are three or four applications for every seat HAVE TROUBLE III UILK W PIPE Terrible Condition of Roads Is a Handicap to the Tidewater Company.
TENTED TOWNS ARE MODEL CANVAS HOMES OF THE PIPE LAYERS ARE VERY CLEANLY AND THE BEST OF ORDER IS ALWAYS MAINTAINED. Hagerstown, Ind., Feb. 15. The Tidewater Oil company now have all the teams available, which is nearly forty in number, hauling pipe and telegraph poles from the freight yard of the Pennsylvania to the pipe line. The roads have not been in good condition for hauling and therefore makes it twice as costly to the com pany. Each load must be weighed be fore going out and such days as Sat urday the load must not exceed 3,000 pounds. When the roads are frozen the law did not compel the weighing of them and nearly three times as much work was accomplished. Each pipe weighs 400 pounds and is six in ches in diameter and IS and 20 feet in length. Three Pipes at a Time. Saturday only three pipes were al lowed to a wagon while, when the roads were frozen, nine pipes were hauled. Ten telegraph poles were loaded on the wagons then but six was the limit Saturday. Seventy-five more workmen arrived at an early hour Saturday morning. tired and hungry, having traveled nearly two nights and a day. Land Office Business. The restaurants, hotels and grocer ies, not looking for such a number of hungry men, were kept busy until nearly noon feeding them. The men were willing to pay a good price for something to eat. Work, at the pumping station is be ing rapidly carried on but people in this vicinity are watching with more interest the establishing of the pipe line. Many have visited the tent vil lages which have been erected five miles apart one east and one west of town. It may be a year before the station will be completed while the pipe layers will have their work fin ished and moved farther east in the course of several days. The camps are run very systematic. Twelve cooks are employed at each camp. They do their own bread making and set a very substantial table. The Italians and natives have their eating, sleeping, etc., separate. Good Housekeepers. The tents are good examples of cleanliness, the tables being covered with white oil cloth, white porcelain dishes being used. The bed cover ings are made of pretty material and each man is under rules to keep these clean as is possible in camping out When supper is over the men must go to their tents and seek their cots at an early hour so as to be able and ready for work the next day. No carousslng or swearing is allowed in the camp: MAYOR TAKES ACTION Connersville Executive Intends To See That Saloons Observe Law. HE REVOKES ONE LICENSE Connersville, Ind., Feb. 15. Mayor Barrows, of Connersville, has undertaken to exert his Influence to bring about law enforcement by the saloons of his town. He has revoked the li cense of a saloon proprietor named John Flannagan. The charge of in toxication was preferred against Flan nagan. The mayor did not waste any time. The proprietor was offered hearing, but did not take advantage of it and thereupon his license was de clared void. - Easy to buy, easy to try, the best, wholesome, appetizing breakfast is Mrs. Austin's famous pancakes.
SUNDAY BASEBALL
MEXT BIG FIGHT This Measure Billed to Have Hearing in the State Senate This Week. TOUGH SLEDDING AHEAD THE SCRAP OVER THE MEASURE PROMISES TO BE ONE THAT WILL BE BITTERLY CONTESTED TO THE FINISH. Palladium Bureau, Indianapolis, Feb. 15. Sunday baseball is likely to furnish the next big fight in the Senate, as the bill is expected to come to a vote this week. The committee having it in charge has made a divided report on the bill, a majority, including Sena tors Bingham and Proctor, being favorable to passage, and the minority to kill the bill. The bill has already passed the House. But the baseball bill will probably have tough sledding in the Senate, although there is a general belief that it will pass by a close vote. The ministers of the state are making a hard fight against It In the Senate. How Labor Stands. Organized labor throughout the State has taken a decided standon two Important questions now before the Legislature. These are the Sun day baseball bill and the repeal of the county local option law. Petitions on these two subjects are pouring in on the Senate from all parts of the state from labor organizations, favoring the passage of the baseball bill and the repeal of the county option law. And there are Indications that these peti tions are having weight and that the two parties will hereafter pay more attention to the demands of labor than have been in the habit of doing. They remember the result of last fall's election, when labor took a hand in the campaign. One of the strongest petitions for the repeal of the county option law that has been received thus far was the one from the Fort Wayne Feder-1 ation of Labor, which has a membership of 5,000. Use Slaughter Method. The House having adopted the slaughter house method of disposing of bills, it may be hoped now that progress will be made with some of the matters that have real merit. At Saturday's forenoon session the House used the ax on thirty-nine bills and their heads all dropped into the basket. In the lot were bills Of all kinds, but none of them were counted of any great importance. It may be expected that the same tactics will be followed by the House from now on until the end of the session. This, it is said, is a result of the appointment the other day of a steering committee by the Democrats of the House, the duty of this committee being to decide on what bills shall pass and what bills shall be consigned to the scrap heap. This committee went through the list of bills pending in the House and passed sentence on a big wad of them. Evidence of Lovo. A lecturer was commenting on Its merited reverence in which woman Is held in America to the scorn that Is too often meted out to her abroad. "Consider." he said, "the position of woman in a country where such a Joke as this is possible. " 'Bill, says a young wife, weeping, wot's the matter? Don't you love me no more?' "Of course I do, dura ye? growls Bill, returnig to bis penny weekly and pot of ahs. " Then, BUI, the young wife sobs, why don't you knock me about?' " The Hapsburg Bridal Trains. There is a curious custom among the daughters of the house of Hapsburg. Their bridal trains instead of finishing an honorable career in the ballroom are bestowed after the ceremony on the church whose sacred floor they have wept At a centenary celebration at Rennweg the altar floor was covered with a sheen of satin and silver mel lowed by a breath of age that had once formed part of the wedding gar ment of Marie Antoinette, the 111 fated queen of France executed in the French revolution. Indigestion, IS Cause of Blaze Thought to Be Due to Rats Nibbling at Match Heads. LOSS WILL AMOUNT $1,200 The large frame barn on the farm of John S. Owens of this city, located five miles east of the city, was destroyed by fire Saturday afternoon. The loss was quite large and is estimated to be about $1,200. The insurance carried is approximately $350. The origin of the lire is unknown. It is thought to be due to matches ignited by rats. The" fire was discovered about 2 o'clock. In the barn was stored 40 tons of hay, other feeds, a large amount of lumber and farm tools. Hunting th. Hippopotamus. A dead hippopotamus invariably sinks to the bottom of the river if shot while swimming, and it is only after an interval which varies between two and eight hours that the body rises and floats on the surface. For this reason, says the Wide World Magazine, if you kill a hippopotamus in a river the current of which is at all rapid, you must, in nine cases out of ten, give up all hope of ever recover ing your quarry. The carcass may be carried a great distance under the wt ter, reappearing at the surface miles away, where it furnishes a providential feast to the native inhabitants on the banks, who call down ironical blessings upon the infallible rifle of the white man.
