The New Phillips. Beginning tomorrow afternoon one &f the most delightful vaudeville acts looked by Manager Murray this season will be presented to the patrons d the New Phillips that of Jerge, Aleene and Hamilton. Their turn constats of a brisk and entertaining little extravaganza which has been making good so far this year. Two Very clever women are with the troupe and their costumes are said to be among the most costly worn on the continuous performance stage today. v II. B. Burton, monologist and singing comedian, has a reputation for taking persons laugh and will have en opportunity for the first three days of the week of sustaining his laurels. His act is one of the cleverest one person turns being booked In 1909. The Harmon trio mixes good acroLatic work with laughs and howls and Wakes their time on the stage seem half what it really is. The comedy furnished by this bunch Is good.

"Madam Butterfly." "Madam Butterfly," the Puccini grand opera, which is to be sung at the Gennett theater February 17th, has leen sung in many American cities, but never before at what might be

called regular grand opera prices. This'

fact is making the tour of the English Opera compay a triumphant one about the country. This organization is a notable one, containing no less than ten members of the original "Madam Uutterfly" cast in this country The musical director is Herr Karl Grossman, easily one of the best l.nown conductors of opera in America. It was Grossman who made the first American productions of many of the great operatic successes abroad. Several years ago he received a silver baton from American singers on the event of conducting his one-thousanth performance of opera in English in New York. Miss Adelaide Norwood, prima donna soprano, has long held a high place among American singers, due to her engagement of several years with leading operatic organizations in this country. Three years ago she went to Europe to fill engagements in several state operas and then went to Bayreuth to study the Wagnerian music drama. On a side trip to Budapest news of her success as "Tosca" reached the ears of Puccini and he went to hear her sing. He was so pleased and so impressed by the quality of her voice and splendid dramatic qualities that he immediately contracted with her to create the role of "Butterfly" In America and personally undertook to coach her in the part.

"The Royal Chef", the new production which will be seen at the Gennett theater, Feb. 18 Ben Jerome, who Is responsible for the score of "The Royal Chef is known as one of the best musicians and composers in America. Mr. Jerome accepts this compliment with modesty and is inclined to give much credit for the success to the care which he orchestrates his music for Mr. Jerome, unlike most composers, does orchestrate his own works.

"The Top O" Th' World." "More than clock-work are the internal engines of these "Top O' Th' World" toys. Times there are when it is electricity and still others when it is dynamite! By all means take your woes to "The Top 0' Th World," but don't attempt to use it as a cure for insomnia. It is an exhilarant; it is like the fabled tea that offers stimulation without staggers. It is two long acts of doings and doings with no rest for the players, and less for yourself. It reduces you to a jelly of laughter. I laughed at it all like a paid performer straight up, at angles, and frequently in circles, and I can't remember one word of it. I can only see the picture, and laugh again." Ashton Stevens in "the New York Evening Journal, (Oct.) "The Top O' Th' World" with the original company will be seen at the Gennett theater, Feb. 19th.

MURDERESS GETS SENTENCE OF DAY Court Rules She Shot in Self Defense.

Leadville, Colo., Feb. 13. Agnes Brady Crawford, who shot and killed Paul A. Davis, the Mine lessee on January 23, this morning pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and was sentenced by Judge Cavender to one day in the county jail. The court held that sufficient evidence was available to show that Mrs. Crawford shot in self defense. Mrs. Crawford is the daughter of the late pugilist, Paddy Brady.

BIG MINING DEAL IS TRANSACTED

"The Thief." William Winter, of the New York Tribune, has so long occupied the commanding position among the dramatic reviewers of the country as to fairly earn the title of dean. His views have force not only of the seasoned writer but of one who can adduce more by comparison than any other critic alive today. "The Thief," which will be seen at the Gennett theatre. February lth, had its original run in the Lyceum theater, New York, where it was played for ten months. In reviewing it, Mr. Winter contended that it should dun for six thousand nights. This is his estimate of the play: "The comedy called 'The Thief," which was produced at the Lyceum theater on September 9th. is one of rare merit and remarkable significance and the performance of it, which is exceptionally good, ought to have a liberal measure of public attention. The subject, one of supreme importance to society, is the love existant between married persons; the persons, that is to say, by whom society is mainly constituted and sustained."

"The Royal Chef." The average auditor in the theatre pays but little attention and gives very little thought to anything but what he sees and hears pn the stage before him. Speaking of the music and musical comedy, one rarely considers anything beyond whether it is pleasing to the ear. The trick or orchestration is thought of by very few outside of those especially cultivated In music, but the orchestration of the music in any musical performance is a matter of the greatest import, and especially is this true in the music of
