the President is Cain and - he finds that the "mark of the beast is on

Roosevelt's forehead," and that the

numbers of the beast as given in the

Book of Revelations spell Roosevelt.

Evans says God has Instructed mm

to go all the way and He would be with him. He says he is like Daniel

in the lion's den and nothing can harm

him. He can put his bands in fire ana not be burned. He can scratch all over broken glass and no injury will re

sult. He is ready to give up his lire in execution of God's will. He also savs his son is Abel on earth, and

that is why he feels called upon to

carry out God's will and kill Cain.

Night before last he rode in a hack

all over town, hunting for Cain. Fin-

allv he was taken to an Advent

Church by the driver where Evans

says he discovered that it was. the City of Babel, and that if he had stayed

there longer he would have become

crazy.

Evans has five sons, the oldest 14 years old. His wife is ill.

the house on the proposed repeal of the county option law has caused a

Caucus of republicans to be called to consider what action should be taken. (The republican members are looking 'for a report on the bill riot later than tomorrow and they say that a minority report is sure to be turned in with Ithe majority report. Under the rules the minority report must first be dis

posed of. It is expected that the

democrats will vote to adopt the ma

jority report In favor of the passage of the bill.- The republicans will vote

for the minority report to kill the bill. .. Republicans Doubtful

But it has been learned that the

republicans are not anywhere near a

unit on the proposition, and that. some

of them refuse to be bound by any

(caucus rule.

The caucus broke up without any

lagreement being reached. This was

due mainly to the fact that Representatives Schreeder and Hewig of Evtansville refused to be bound by any caucus agreement to line up solidly

against the repeal bill, and Represen

tative Ratliff, of Richmond, declared that he favored giving each member

'the right to vote as he pleased indi

were not all alike. The question of the coming county option election, in

the eleven counties in which they have been called was discussed and

the members appeared anxious to know just what effect they will make

on the passage of the repeal bill.

It is said that the committee viU not report on the local option repeal

Otis Skinner. Theatergoers who are lovers of Bal

zac's novels, have in store for them

an unexpected treat in the production by Otis Skinner at the Gennett theater, Jan. 25, of his newest success,

The Honor of the Family," adapted

by Paul M. Potter from one of Bal

zac's justly famous romances. The

play ran- for four months in New

York . last season to crowded houses,

at the beautiful Hudson theater. Ev

erything that Mr. Skinner produces is of extreme Interest. Intense devo

tion to his art, an excellent habit of thinking for himself and so Imparting originality into every" part he creates,

have been the secret of his great suc

cess. "The Honor of the Family" is a

strong, daring drama, with an essentialy romantic environment, v Mr.

Skinner will assume the character of

Philippe Bridau, one of the faithful Bonapartlsts : after the Emperor's

downfall, who vowed in good earnest

a mortal enmity to the Bourbons and even refused the . opportunities which

were offered to him for employment

in the Infantry with his rank of Lieu-

tenant-Colone.1. The character is one j

in which recklessness, unblushing effrontery and cool courage are blended

in a most fascinating way.

The famous Spanish dancer, "La

Company, will appear in conjunction

with their production of the musical

comedy "Too Many Wives." During the engagement of this play at the

Gennett theater, "La Manolita" will

produce the latest sensation, "The Dance of the Veils," assisted by her

own company of twelve people. This

novel feature is staged with a wealth of special scenery, . historical cos

tumes and electrical effects, making it one of the most expensive features

with any entertainment of this class.

Washington, Jan. 20. Charles N. P. Evans, 36 years old, 906 Seventh street, Southeast, was arrested in the House subway yesterday while hunting for President Roosevelt, whom he said he must kill. Evans, who is a paper hanger by trade, is a victim of religious insanity, It is said, and says he is impelled to kill the President from religious motives. He was searched in the office of the Capitol police, but no weapons were found upon him. He was taken to the Sixth Precinct Police Station.. According to the rambling story Evans told the police he has been studying the Scriptures since he was 12 years old. He has discovered that

It is very seldom nowadays that ' one sees any relic of the motives that prompted our present civilization in

America. And this relic is an old hat of over a hundred years of age is all the more interesting. Away back

in our history can be found the blood

of the Puritans. It was the Puritans

who furnished the stable blood of

America and anything with direct re

ference to the people of the northeast

ern coast is of more or less signific

ance. Danny Mann as "Uncle Hicky'

n "Mandy Hawkins" at the New Phil

lips this half week wears a hat that

was given him by the grandson of one

of the original Puritans. The hat is

in a very disreputable condition. Dan

ny also wears a pair of boots that are over eighty years' of age. Mr. Mann

says these boots have been on. every i vaudeville stage in the United States,

a great number in Canada and a few in!

Mexico. The work of Mr. and Irs.

Mann in their rural comedy-pathos

skit retains its charm and enchantment. The applause given the turn

by the audience is particularly com

mendatory to both the actors.
