GjBUGGIST JOUES AGAIN OU TRIAL i " ,.., --V.' jury Selected This Morning Was Asked to Give Knowledge of Intoxicants.
'POSSUM J TATERS Annual Spread by Bethel Folks Will Be Held on Saturday Evening. COL. WILEY PRESS AGENT
FIVE ARE DRINKING MEN CHARGE AGAINST JONES IS THAT HE VIOLATED THE BLIND TIGER LAW DISAGREEMENT IN FIRST TRIAL. '
Practically the same questions that were asked jurors la the former case as to their opinion of the liquor business and their acquaintance with the use of intoxicants were preferred when the case of the State vs. Dr. Arthur Jones of Whitewater came up
in the Wayne circuit court for retrial today. The former trial, resulted In a disagreement by the Jury. . Jones is charged with violating the liquor laws of the state by keeping a place for the sale of intoxicants without a license to to do and with keeping liquors for unlawful sale. , The indictment of Jones Is in t wo counts and constituted an Infringement of what is known as the "blind tiger" law. Seven Are Abstainers. Of; the jury that now la hearing the case, seven have- declared they are not In the custom of using Intoxicating liquors. Five stated they make use of liquor occasionally. One of the jurors said he takes an occasional glass of beer. The jurors were asked if they have such opinion on t he temperance question that it would unfit them or effect their judgment in the case. They were asked also If because of their habit ot drinking or because they do not use Intoxicants their opinion would be favor of Jones, bonis Hampton of New Garden township and James Roberta said they bad such opinions and were excused by the court for cause. Jones Is a Druggist. Jonea la proprietor of a general store at Whitewater. He is a practicing physician and also operates a drug store. It fa charged by the state he mad use of his store as a place to sell intoxicating - liquors. The store -was raided by members of the police force of the city August 13 of last year. " -:
Jones is being defended by Robbins & Robbins. John F. Robbins did not take part in the former trial but appears now as chief counsel. The state is represented by Prosecutor Ladd, -who Is assisted by Wilfred Jessup, former prosecutor.
The annual 'possum supper . which
will be held at Bethel Saturday night
will attract a large crowd from all parts of Eastern Indiana and Western
Ohio in which Bethel is known as a town on the map. Col. Wiley, presi
dent of the board of county commis
sioners and promoters and advertising agent for , the Bethel suppers, declared today he will have to admit his
shortcomings. He asserted that Atlan
ta, Georgia has beaten him out. The southern city's boosters have left the
Bethel magnate at the post. A pos
sum dinner was given at Atlanta and the chief guest was William Taft,
president-elect. Now the Colonel be
lieves he was 'slipped one when such an attraction was not secured for Bethel. How Taft could have gone to Atlanta to eat 'possum, when he
might have enjoyed just as good
meal and better time at Bethel, Wiley
has not figured out.
Without Tatt, however, tnat 'pos
sum supper will be held. There will
be . plenty of good things to eat in
eluding , chicken, potatoes and other
things, ' which the Colonel could not
name today, as he had forgotten his
menu card. ' . ;

CLAIM OLSON WON
Experts Say Indianapolis Man Had Big Turk Down at Least Twice.
WAS VICTIM OF A SCHEME
Charges of unfairness have been en
red by wrestling experts who saw the Mahmout-Olson match in Chicago
last week. - It is asserted that Olson
had the Turk's shoulders to the mat
twice and would have won had he
been given fair treatment. The scan
dal proceeds further and intimates that Olson was made- a tool whereby
Mahmout by winning would be enti
tied to a match with Gotch; that in
order the Turk might win, the referee
played unfair with Olson. Olson him self refuses to talk about the matter,
wrestlers say tnat Olson is clearly a match for the Turk and in many ways the better man. Gotch is to meet the Turk soon but experts say that the Turk will not even furnish a good exhibition with the present champion.
i Joseph Caldwell of Rushville, well
known . Jn Richmond, brother-in-law
or unaries L.yons of this city, was
shot In the foot while hunting Satur
day, by a friend named Wilson. Cald
well is getting along as well as could be expected and it is not thought that
his injuries will prove serious.
Mr. Caldwell and his friend were out hunting after a snow fall. The former saw a rabbit covered almost entirely by snow and put his foot on It and at the same time, Wilson fired
his revolver, injuring his friend and
killing the rabbit
