Woman Who Surrendered Bank Swindler Runyon

'T 2 MRS. LAURA M. CARTER. This is Mrs. Laura M. Carter of New York, thte woman who surrendered Chester B. Runyon, the paying teller of the Windsor Trust Company, who stole about $60,000 from that institution in 1907. Mrs. Carter again comes into prominence because she is suing for the reward of $2,500 that was offered for" Runj'on's apprehension. After packing about $90,000 of the bank's money into a suit case, Runyonwent to the woman's fiat in a fashionable apartment house and remained in seclusion for a couple of weeks when a quarrel arose between the two regarding money, the woman demanding a larger amount than Runyon appeared willing to part with. Mrs. Carter left the apartment and soon returned with detectives who placed Runyon under arrest and toted the suit case along. Mrs. Carter has encountered difficulty in her attempts to collect the $2,500 reward for his captorre, hence the legal proceedings recently commenced. The acquaintance between Runyon and Laura had been of but short duration and was the result of a chance meeting on Broadway when the paying teller was attracted by Mrs. Carter's striking beauty. Robinson would be death by gunshot. He will not assign any rea son for the deed nor will he declare in his verdict that it his belief, as sub stantiated by the evidence, that Mr. Robinson's act was premeditated. The contract of the Caldwell-Mob-Vey company for the erection of a residence property for Mrs. J. M. Gaar on North Tenth street has been taken over by counsel for Mrs. Gaar. The latter declared today there Is no doubt of the insolvency of the firm of coni tractors. The Metropolitan Surety company of New York, which bonded Caldwell & Mohley has been declared insolvent, alio. NECKLACE CASE ENDS 1 Famous, Contest Over Leeds Jewels Closed by the. Supreme Court. GOVERNMENT IS DEFEATED New York, Jan. 13. The famous Leeds pearl necklace rase was settled today when the court of appeals reversed the circuit court's decision and affirmed the appraisers aftsenanient of ten per -cent import duly. The necklace Is said to-be valued at a quarter of a million and was purchased In Paris by Mr. Leeds for his wife. The government wanted the assessment made sixty per cent while 'the board of appraisers insisted that ten percent was correct. , MILES GOODWIN OIESAT OXFOflO 1 Young New Castle Man Was Popular in This City. Miles M. Goodwin, one of the best known young men of New Castle died Monday night at a private sanitarium at Oxford. O.
