III NEW LEAGUE Indianapolis Semi-Prof essional Club Plans to Organize Sunday Ball League. ALSO GAMES ON SATURDAY

THE THEATER

THEATRICAL CALENDAR. GENNETT. Thursday, Jan. 14 "Father and the Boys." Friday, Jan. 15 "Girls." Monday, Jan. 18 Mme. Marches). NEW PHILLIPS. All WeekHigh Class Vaudeville.

ALL PROPOSED TOWNS IN CIRCUIT ARE WITHIN RADIUS OF SIXTY MILES LEGISLATIVE ACTION DEPENDED ON. Indianapolis, Jan. 11. A new baseball organization to be know as the Capital Interstate league is being

planned by the managers ot eight crack Independent teams, including the Atkins Saw Works club of Indianapolis. The schedule will include Saturday, Sunday and holiday games provided the legislature during the present session does not put the ban on Hubbath day contests. Richmond, Connersville, Newcastle. Hartford City, Columbus and Lebanon, all well known in independent baseball circles, will be the other members of the new organization according to present plans. Nothing definite has been done except some correspondence between the managers of the teams named. As all of the promoters are anxious to complete the league, its fate rests entirely on the action of the solons, who will either make or break' Sundity baseball for the present season. All of the towns' considered for membership are within a radius of sixty miles and on interurban car lines. The mileage expense would be reduced to a minimum and there would be but few hotel aifd other bills to eat up the profits. As games are to be scheduled only on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays the players could hold other positions. Towns Equipped With Parks. All of the towns are equipped with grounds at present and. the managers would not have to inyest much money in anything besides players. Moreover the cities are known to be enthusiastic baseball centers-and if the legislature does not kill Sundav ball absolutely there is every reason to believe that the league will make its debut this spring. ' Connersville was a member of the Kentucky-Indiana-Ohio league last year, but that organization has disbanded, as the Weidemans and other members have expressed their intention to play independent ball. Connersville is a corking good baseball town and it is anxious to be in a good league.' Brazil and Columbus have not been prominent in independent circles within the last few seasons, but the promoters in these towns have laid their plans well and Jjelieve that baseball will, draw. Brazil is a mining town

and it Is thought that the miners would support Sunday and holiday

games.

The promoters of the now league are confident that if favorable action is taken by the law makers a strong or

ganization will be perfected.

"Father and the Boys." A rare treat is promised at the Gennett theater on Thursday evening, Jan. 14, when V. II. Crane, one of the finest and most popular of American comedians, appears in one of the best successes he has ever achieved, "Father and the Boys," by George Ade, author of "The County Chairman" and "The College Widow." It is said this author has not put so many laughs

into anything he has heretofore writ

ten, either fable, humorous story or plys In "Father and the Boys" he has fitted Mr. Crane with a part in which theatergoers are bound to be delighted with him for many seasons

o come. The play is not only amus

ing, but it has splendid moral purpose

which an audience cannot fail to discern even though it comes through the heartiest kind of laughter. Not in

years has Mr. Crane had a comedy so

thoroughly diverting, and' with a story so interesting, fresh and wholesome.

IS READY FOR TURK

Charles Olson, Local Favorite,

Will Give Battle to Big Foreigner Tonight.

WINNER WILL MEET GOTCH

Chicago, Jan. 11. Charles Olson, the

Indianapolis Swede who meets Yusiff

Mabamout in a wrestling bout here to

night has trained to the very top notch, and to his admiring friends he

looks fit to be able to handle the great

Turkish, wrestler.

Olson, who sent Fred Beell to defeat several days ago before the Empire Wrestling club, is confident that his

bout tonight will demonstrate that he

is the fit candidate to meet Champion

Gotch. The Turkish wrestler, whose admira

Die work has set him high in the

minds of the admiring Americans, has trained himself to the top notch with full expectation of having the hardest fight of his career on his

hands. i Very Little Betting on Bout

. That there will be very little bet

ting on the outcome,-. of; . the, bout because of the order' Issued by Mayor

Busse, seems to be the general opinion.

Wrestling in Chicago will get a se

rious setback if the police stop the bout on account of betting, as it is in

timated they will do.

Chicago holds good for any sport so

long as it isn t abused by warring wrestling clubs, who hurl charges of

unfairness at each other.

- The coming carnival of sports which will be held under the auspices of the Seventh Regiment, I. X. G.. and in

which pugilists will be allowed to box six-round,' no-decision contests, might be the means of reviving the pugilistic

game again, but the promoters who

are waiting to see they are still

doubtful.

Our Muslin Garment Sale las proven a great success,

but the stock is large and the

sale is still continued. Cal

"Girls." ' "Girls," the newest of Sam S. and

Lee Sbuberts successes, Will be the exceptionally good offering at the

Gennett on January 15. The play is

from the pen of Clyde Fitch, author of more real successes than any man now before the public. "Girls" will

best be remembered for its long run

at Daly's Broadway theater, New York

city, and as the only comedy that braved the warm summer months and played to capacity houses. Add the

perfect technique of Clyde Fitch to

the sumptuousness of the Shuberts, in

their presentations, then add a per

fectly balanced staff of clever players

and you have the key. Realism may be said to have had a lot to do with

making this play a success. The first

act showing the studio of three girls,

who have proclaimed themselves as genuine man-haters, fully eclipses all

previous efforts made in this line. Vis

ions of pretty maids in deshabille, making chocolate and eating eclairs

before retiring for the night, pink toes

peeping out from an all to short cov

erlet on an imprisoned Morris chair bed until their shivering owner calls

a companion to "tuck" her in. Real

istic presentmen of of horrified and

scandalized feminity aroused from slumber by the presence of a man In

the room all these and much more

managed so cleverly and adriotly, that

not the slightest hint of offensiveness can hold valid, are among the-situa

tions involved in the play. .

The New Phillips.

"Yeve ho, jolly tar, yeve ho" is one

of the most melodious of the nautical

songs sung by the Bijou Four at the

New Phillips this half-week. . This

afternoon saw another large first aud

ience which was greatly pleased with

the program. The work of the sail

or boys met with round after round of applause and they were not at all timid about encoring. The chorus

and solo work of this foursome is exceptionally good and their pleasing costumes and true attendant acting is

one of the big features of the turn,

The Novelty act also took well and of

fered the gathering a fresh line of

amusement. Claude Tha'rdo drew sev

eral laughs and encores from the au

dience with his black faced comedy

work and his coon song singing. The

illustrated song and two films of mov

ing pictures completed the program.

This bill will be changed Thursday aft

ernoon.

Mme.' Marches). -

Mme. Blanche Marches! will be the

attraction at the Gennett theater, Jan.

18th.

Mme. Blanche Marchesl, like Mme.

Sembrich is an excellent violinist; in

fact her first public appearance was made as a violinist, and under most auspicious conditions. After" having studied under Nikisch, in Vienna she returned to Paris and there continued her work under the master-violinist Colonne. She was in great demand as a soloist and at one time accompanied Mme. Gabrlelle

Krauss, in the Bach-Gounod "Ave

Maria" Gounod playing the organ part However, her success as a teacher first of singing and then as an opera and concert singer engaged all her attentions and while she still plays well, the violin is practically last with her in her now busy career.

It will be noted that in Mme. Mar-

chesi's musical life she has reversed things, for as a rule, a prima donna

appears first in Opera, then concert, and then settles down to what they

so many times designate as the

grind of teaching." Mme. Marchesi,

however, still finds her greatest pleasure in teaching and notwithstanding

her greatest successes in opera and

concert, she still believes that as a

teacher she derives more sincere enjoyment than from any other branch of her musical work.

The fact that when a young woman.

a mere slip of a girl she was during an illness of her mother, left in charge of her mother's classes, shows

that her ability as an instructor was

given early recognition.

When one considers for the last fif

ty years her mother has numbered among her classes, from two to eight of those who have since grown to be among the world's greatest operatic

stars, it will be seen that Mme. Blanche had no small task on her hands, but one which she performed with credit to herself and satisfac

tion to the embryonic luminaries who

were later to dazzle the world.

Now that Lou Criger is trying to grab off a piece of the- purchase money paid by Jimmy McAleer for his release from the Red Sox, we can see why the backstop was so willing to tear himself away from Cy Young. Tom Corcoran is looking over the ground at Waterbury with a view of taking the Connecticut league team in that city.
