WOULD ABOLISH COUNCIL DOES AWAY WITH CITY JUDGE, BOARD OF WORKS, TREASURER AND NUMBER OF OTHER PUBLIC OFFICES. Wilfred Jessup was at Indianapolis today to confer with the legislative committee of the Municipal League' of Indiana in regard to the proposed re vision of the municipal code. The Young Men's Business club of this 'city will undertake to jpffer a revision of the code that it hopes to have adopts ed. The proposed code abolishes the city council, the board of public works, city judge, the city treasurer and a number of other offices. It provides for a municipal government by a commission composed of five members, elected by popular vote and made absolutely responsible for all financial matters. SEARCH FOR PAPERS STILL GOING ON Complaint in Important Case Is Missing. The search for the papers in the Martin-Chitwood case, recently heard in the Wayne circuit court, has been prosecuted by. local attorneys and court house attaches to no avail. One of the attorneys declared today the jjaiiers must, be some place about the court house or one of the Connersville attorneys must have carried them away. A motion for a new trial in the case has been overruled and in order to prepare a bill of exceptions it Is necessary that the original complaint and other papers be found. SHE GAVE GREAT TROUBLE Three members of the police force, the city ambulance and volunteers from the Panhandle railroad depot force had all the trouble they could attend to yesterday afternoon In the person of Elizabeth Jones, colored, who hailed from Hamilton, Ohio. The woman weighs about 20 pounds and the police declare she was the most troublesome they ever have dealt with. They claim she was ejected bodily from Hamilton and dumped into this city. Trustee Potter and probation officer Mrs. Candler would have none of her and ordered her to go on. She refused and said she would remain here. She claimed she had a broken back and could not leave the wire cot upon which she had been "shipped" here. The officers forced cot, wo man, baggage and dog into the ambu lance, hauled them to a limited interurban car and unloaded them In the baggage compartment. The fare was paid to Indianapolis. Th Year Without a 8ummir. The year 1816 has a remarkable cold weather record and Is known as "the year without a summer." In that year there was a sharp frost in every month, and the people all over the 'world began to believe that some great and definite change in the earth was taking place. The farmers used to refer to it as "eighteen hundred and starve to death." Frost, ice and snow were common in June. Almost every green thing was killed, and the fruit was nearly all destroyed. During the mouth snow fell to the depth of three Inches In New York and Massachusetts and ten inches in Maine. There were frost and ice in July in New Tork, New England and Pennsylvania, and corn was nearly all destroyed in certain sections. Ice half an inch thick formed in August. A cold north winl prevailed all summer. Taking a Mean Advantage. Once a. thrifty Scotch physician was called to a case where a woman had dislocated her Jaw. He very soon put her right. The woman asked how much was to pay. The doctor named his fee. The patient thought It too much. lie. however, would not take less, and as the woman refused to give j him the fee he began to yawn. Yawning, as every one knows. Is Infectious. The young woman In turn yawned. Her jaw again went out of Joint, and the dot-tor triumphantly said. "Now, nntll you hand me over my fee your Jaw can remain as It Is." Needle to say. the money was promptly paid. An Easy Problem. Prove that 0 taken from 6 and 10 taken from 9 and 50 taken from 40 j when nil added together is only 6. Easy when you know how.
