At the third anniversary meeting of the Denver Brown Camp this evening appropriate exercises will be held in commemoration of the event. The lodge will also name committees which will select one of their number as a candidate for Department Commander of the State Encampment for the ensuing year. Success in this venr ture will no doubt enable the order to bring the state encampment for 1910 to this city. Last summer the' local camp made an unsuccessful fight for the honor of holding the encampment here in 1909. The committee which made a visit to the Soldiers' and Sailors' Orphans' Home at Knightstown and inspected the institution, will report as to their trip this evening. All members of the camp are expected to be present. LOSE AMBITION. Local members of the Uniform Railk Knights of Pythias will not endeavor to secure the state encampment for next year. AUTOMOBILE FOR MAIL DELIVERY Postmaster Spekenhier Has Plan for Christmas Distribution. BLESSING TO CARRIERS. BY EMPLOYING BIG "SANTA CllAUS" CAR, GIFTS ARRIVING CHRISTMAS WILL BE GIVEN OUT THAT DAY. Christmas comeB on December 25th, and not the 26th, says Postmaster Spekenhier, and in order that all peo ple in Richmond may get packages, addressed to them on Christmas day, he will use an automobile to assist the carriers in their work. This idea Is unique and is probably original with the local postmaster. On Christmas day the carriers will leave the main office and patrol their districts, but when these trips are completed they will be met by Uncle Sam's auto, which will be laden with Xmas presents of all sorts and the carriers will not be required to return to the office to secure additional loads. Postmaster Spekenhier thinks that many hours will be saved in delivery and he hopes to get all Christmas packages delivered in this city by noon Friday. If this is done, it will establish a record, one which will probably not be duplicated at any point in the United States. A hip flnntlnsr hunnor rm wi(h vtll De mscrined "United States Mall," will be placed on the machine and it is predicted by the postmaster that the speed ordinance will be shattered time and time again during the morning. All mail delivered via automobile, will be sorted before It leaves the office and when placed in the hands of the carrier, will be ready for delivery, the packages being so arranged that the carrier will lose no time in starting. The plan as outlined will greatly facilitate delivery on the outskirts of the city, where carriers are a great distance from the central office. The establishment of a record is not the chief object of Postmaster Spekenhier's plans, for he remembers when he was a boy and of the delayed presents which never seemed like Christmas gifts, because they were late on arriving. He says that his chief delight in the venture will be in making hundreds of Richmond people happier. He says that many people in moderate circumstances will have a much more notable celebration than would otherwise be the case. The Christmas business at the Richmond postoffice. has increased fifty per cent in the past three days. The entire regular force assisted by substitute clerks and carriers, is now on duty and thousands of pieces of mail are being handled dally. The rush will continue until after Friday. A large number of the packages sent by Richmond people are being registered, probably more than any previous year, and Sunday, the registry clerks were required to work the entire day. This is unusual. Painter and Peddler. F. rioptinson Smith was sketching a landscape in Maine when an aged man stepped up behind him and looked over his shoulder at the canvas. -Humph r said the stranger, somewhat scornfully. "What do you paint them for the market?" ; "Yes," said Mr. Smith. "You must paint a lot of 'em to get a liTin. I guess you have a harder way of gettJn a llvin than I have." "What Is your business?" asked Mr. Smith. 1 "Oh, I peddle pond lilies," said ths man. .

ASK FACULTY TO ELIMINATE THE ANCIENT RULE, POINTING OUT THEIR PARENTS SANCTION DANCING. Several young men of Karlham col lege who have been attending dances given In Richmond since the open inn of the fall term at the college have been told that there is an old rult against this practice and the question for the time being has been left entirely with them, although It la Tery probable since being apprised of the college law on the proposition, they . will refrain from attending In the fu ture, unless some special dispensation is made for them by the authorities. Last week. Professor OTville Men- . denhall. who is the "governor" In th boys' dormitory', called several of th young men together and told them ol the rule, -which has ben in effect since the school was organized. No threats were made by the faculty through Mr. Mehdenhall. It Is probable that the young men attending dances will ask that the faculty not to bar them from partici pating In the city's social functions as , their parents have no objections and consequently the college authorities should not hare any.' Whether or not this appeal will result favorably to them la not known, aa th matter has not been given consideration by the faculty as a whole. It will probably be discussed at the next meeting.
