Winnipeg, Manitoba, Dec. 19. In ten years there will not be a Chinaman left in the United States or Canada, was the statement made last night by Lau Sz Kiv, imperial investigator, ap-

1 pointed by the Chinese government to

inquire into mining, agricultural and commercial matters on this continent,

with a view to the organization of an era of development in China.

With him are Law A. Yan. Yip Yen and Ou Wan Yow, three merchants of I China, who are seeking out Chinamen well verse din various lines of trade ' and commerce, that they may be sent

back to China to work for a cyndicate which has been formed with a capital of $3,000,000 to build railroads, steamships, develop mines, farms and engage in banking and general business. The company has already been started and will soon begin operations in the province of Kweng Si, and Yep Yen, president of the concern, said hundreds of other companies will be put in operation as soon as the company now being organized has started work, and China will induce her countrymen on this continent to return to China, and the inducements are being offered by the government for the development of the country are so great that every Chinaman will respond to the call.

Marked For Death. "Three years ago I was marked for death. A grave-yard cough was tearing my lungs to pieces. Doctors failed to help me, and hope had fled, when my husband got Dr. King's New Discovery," says Mrs. A. C. Williams, of Bac, Ky. "The first dose helped me and improvement kept on until I had gained 58 pounds in weight and my health was fully restored." This medicine holds the world' healing record for coughs and colds and lung and throat diseases. It prevents pneumonia. Sold under guarantee at A. G. Luken & Co. drug store. 50c and $1.00. Northampton, Mass., Dec 19. Ira A. Lovejoy, of Beichertown, charged with having two wives, was held today for the grand jury in the sum of $1,000. He married Grace Lumphy in Canton, Mass., in March, 1905, but they separated three years later. In May, this year, according to the complaint. Lovejoy married Harriet M. Lane, of Beichertown. The first Mrs. Lovejoy, who lives in

Worcester, testified that not long ago

she gave Lovejoy a release of his marriage obligations, putting it in writing. The consideration was that he

allow her $50 of his pension money. A day or two before his arrest on the

charge of bigamy she wrote him, hav

ing learned of his second marriage. It

was aspicy letter. She said:

"You may take me for a fool, but you will find out that I am not the big fool you take me for. It always

took you forever to do nothing, but if

you don't get a gait on you mighty

you stand?"

Another letter was read in colirt from her to Lovejoy's Beichertown

wife, if it she said: "I hear you are afraid of Mr. Love

good man, but I have quit with him, having given him a release from all

marriage vows."

Asking Too Much.

I believe there is a story told of Mark Twaia that In youthful days, being sent out by his mother to weed a certain flower bed and finding more weeds than flowers, he came back and asked if he might not "flower the weed bed." Our little Alfred probably has as great an aversion to work as had the youthful Clemens. Admonished to pull some rather larsre weeds In the buck

yard, after a faint; hearted lift on one

"Mamma, how do you think I'm to-

ing to pull these weeds when th
