New York, Dec. 16. The total popular vote of the presidential nominees at the last national election has been made known in an official form by the filing of the last of the official votes, that of Michigan. The totals show the following vote cast: Taft (Rep.) 7,637,676 Bryan (Dem.) 6,393,182 Debs (Soc.) 448,453 Chafin (Pro.) 241,252 Hisgen (Ind.) 83,186 Watson (Pop.) 33,871 Gilhau3 (Soc. Lab.) 15,421

Total 14,853,041

The total exceeds by 1,348,333 the total number of votes cast in the presidential election of 1904, when the grand total was 13,510,708. Compared with that election the nominees of the republican, democra-

tic and socialist parties increased their vote this year. The reverse is true of the nominees of the prohibition, populist and socialist labor parties. The independence party did not

figure in the presidential election of;

four years ago. The biggest difference in a party vote is shown in an increase for Bryan of 1,315,211 over the total vote

cast in 1904 for Alton B. Parker, the; democratic nominee. Taft received 14,190 votes more than were polled

for President Roosevelt in 1904 and Debs ran 46,170 ahead of his predecessor on the Socialist ticket. The votes cast for Taft and Bryan were almost identical in number in

two states, namely, Maryland and Ne

vada. In the first mentioned Taft received 111,253 and Bryan 111,117 and in the other 10,214 and 10,655, respectively.

AFFLICTED WITH "THAT TIRED FEELING" Good Gas Reports Weary New Castle People.

The New Castle Courier says the news from Richmond that there will be an abundant supply of gas for the local consumers during the winter gives New Castle people "that tired feeling." The New Castle folks are not pleased because gas is pumped from Henry county to this city, and none left for the New Castle hot plates.

IK MARVEL DIES AT ADVANCED AGE Famous Author Had Been III For Months. New Haven, Conn.. Dec. 16. Donald Grant Mitchell (Ik Marvel) died last night at his home in Edgewood. He had been ill for months. Mr. Mitchell, author of the delightful fancies, "Reveries of a Bachelor," and "Dream Life," which have had repeated vogue for over half a century, was over 86 years of age. He was born in Norwich, Conn., in April, 1822.

Monticello, Ky., Dec. 16. Failure of a mob of about 400 men to get across the Cumberland river at Bart, a village midway between here and Jamestown, was all, very probably, that prevented the lynching last night of Hill, the sixteen-year-old boy charged with the murder of thirteen-year-old Mamie Womack. The mob was composed entirely of Russell county men, the majority of whom, it is said, reside in the neighborhood in which the crime of last Tuesday was committed. When they reached the Cumberland river, opposite Bart, the mounted men found that the ferry boat was on the Wayne county side. The river was too deep to ford and the ferry man gave no heed to the demands of the mob that he bring his boat across, and at midnight they turned their horses homeward.

Imaginary Holidays. I know a man who cannot afford to travel and yet has a delightful way of deceiving himself. He learns about the cost of traveling, the proper clothing to be worn, gets a time table and arranges excursions for himself to various places and then reads about them in books of travel. To the man with imagination it is a captivating occupation. Hearth and Home.
