Home of Butterick Patterns
The florists of Richmond, known as "the original flower city," are experiencing the heaviest Christmas business in years. Thousands and thousands
of cut flowers and plants are now be-: lng exported to all parts of the country, but the home demand is so heavy j that this export trade will be discon- i
tinued at the beginning of Christmas week.
"The heaviest demand is or carna
tions, then comes roses. There is also an exceptionally heavy demand for all other kinds of cut flowers and for plants," stated an employee of the Hill Floral company today. "It is hard
to estimate the number of cut flowers that will be sold but it will run up into the hundreds of thousands." ! It is stated that the supply of the west end and the east end greenhouses of the Hill company will be completely exhausted by Christmas. Out of town retailers have been informed by this company that after December 10, no foreign orders will be filled, owing j to the demand of the local trade. 1 All the other local florists are enjoying the same heavy trade that tjie Hill company is, and they state that orders for flowers to be delivered Christmas or Christmas week "have been steadily pouring in for several days and, with the heavy foreign demand, the output of their greenhouses will, in all probability, be exhausted by Christmas. TWO VICTIMS OF FANATIC WAR DEAD
Republican Candidates Feel Sure That-Democrats Will' Not Be Able to Oust them
Indianapolis, Ind., Dec. 10. The successful Republican candidates at the recent state election whose seats the democratic aspirants to the same offices threaten to contest at the coming session of the legislature lwflieve Khttti the contest will not interfere with their keeping their places. The figures giving the returns from those counties which showed a close vote between democrats and republicans hove been gone over and the officers believe that the vote is sufficiently substantial to withstand any attack that might be made in the contest. Point to Official Returns. - As an argument in defense of their contention that they are safe from being counted out by a contesting committee, the republicans say that In the counties where a recount has been made from the first official returns
their pluralities show up better than In the original count. The figures from these counties were the ones that the officers looked over last night, and they have borne out their contention.

In an article on the lotteries the Berliner Tagblatt says there are three ways by which wealth is acquired by work, which is long and tedious, by dishonesty, which is a precarious proceeding and by gambling. The number of persons who prefer the last named method, says the writer, is large in the German realm, for there the great lotteries thrive the best. There are seven of these under the management of the government, and they distribute $160,000,000 in qrizes. The anxiety to secure a part of this amount has destroyed the happiness of thousands of households, and has diverted thousands of good men from honest industry and thrift to idleness and poverty.
Kansas City, Dec. 11. Two more names were added to the list of dead as
a result of Tuesday's battle between religious fanatics and the police here, the total number of dead now being four. Shortly before noon yesterday, Louis Pratt, 45 years old, the foremost disciple of James Sharp, died at the General hospital, and an hour later Michael Mullane, a policeman, succumbed to his wounds at St. Joseph's hospital. Policeman Albert O. Dalbow and Lulu Pratt died immediately after being shot Tuesday. James Sharp, who lell the fanatics in their fight with officers, was arrested at Monticello, Johnson county, Kan. He gave himself up without showing any resistance. "Adam God" was wounded in both hands; a shot had pierced his sleeve, while another bullet had passed thrlugh his cap. When found he was asleep beneath a haystack. He told the officers that he waa willing to be taken now that he had "finished the work God sent me to do."
COW GIVES BIRTH TO THREE CALVES This is no nature fake story. It is vouched for by Will Robbins, county recorder elect, and others. A cow on the farm of John Fender, in Abington township, has given birth to three calves. The trio was born within a few minutes of each other. One calf died, but the others survived and are in fine condition. The claim was registered at the Court House that Abington township can produce something besides democrats.

Women Not Respected in That City. Cambridge City, Ind., Doc. ft. The use of profanity on the streets has become very annoying lately. It is a common thing to hear the vilest oaths and foul remarks on prominent corners and places of business and when women are obliged to pass along near groups of men they are not respected. This occurs mostly in the early evening or at night when there are many people on the streets. An enforcement of the law aga!ust public proranity in a few cases would undoubtedly bring forth good results.
RESTRAINS COMMISSIONERS
The liberal element of the city was
delighted today over tlie announcement that Judge Luke Wrighley of Columbia City; judge of the Whitely circuit court, had granted a temporary restraining order preventing the county commissioners from calling a special county local option election. The case will be argued February 4. Temperance workers point out that this decision has no bearing on the local situation as the reasons Judge
Wrigley had for issuing the restraining order may not apply in this county. They also point out that this week the judge of the Wabash circuit court refused to grant a restraining order, holding that the county local option law was constitutional. It is now the general understanding that should the required petition for a local option election be presented to the commissioners of Wayne county, no effort will be made to have Judge Fox issue an order restraining the
! commissioners from ordering an elecI tiou until after it is escertained what ! action the legislature will take in regard to the county local bption law. j This action seemed probable a few weeks ago.
