No. 1620. nov24-tf OIES AFTER I LONG ILLNESS Carolln Snyder widow of the late Garret Snyder, died at her home, 308 South Eighth street, last evening at eleven o'clock at the age of 6S years, after an illaess extending over a year. She was one of the oldest and most respected German women of the city and she leaves besides three daughters, Mrs. Edward Turner, Mrs. George Pille of Richmond, Mrs. George Plehl of Cincinnati, one son, George Snyder, of this city, many friends to mourn her loss. Friends may call any time to view the remains on Thursday afternoon. The funeral announcements will be made later. CARRIER STOLE PENNIES GIVEN HIM James Taylor, a carrier of the Newport. Ky., postoffice, has been arrested as the result of the efforts of Charles Swain of this city, district inspector. Taylor is accused of stealing from the mails. It is claimed the man appropriated pennies left in boxes or given him for the purpose of buying stamps and affixed canceled , stamps to the envelopes. KEEFE FAVORED Bl PRESIDENT Washington, Dec. 2. President Roosevelt has appointed Daniel J. Keefe, of Detroit, commissioner general of immigratloft to fill the place made vacant by the death of Frank P. Sargent and made known his Intention to reappoint to their respective positions W. R. Cruni, collector of the port at Charleston, S. C, and Martin Knapp, chairman of the interstate commerce commission. RECOVERS RAPIDLY. Mrs. Adams May Soon Be Taken to Her Home. Mrs. James Adams who was recently hit by a street car on North E street while in a carriage with her husband, is rapidly improving and her 1 physicians now hope for her ultimate recovery. She is confined et the Reid i Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Adsms will probably be taken to her home next ! week. ASSESSMENT ROLL DONE. The primary assessment roll for the south west sower system was approved by the board of public works i at its meeting today. The average as sessment per lot is about $50. KING IMPROVES. Lewis King, the well known, printer who was operated on at the Reid Memorial Hospital last Saturday, is reported to be better today. His physicians are unable to state whether there will be any complications, but these are not thought likely. An .attempt to establish a municipal brewery In Berlin resulted ia a dismal failure. It did plenty of business, bat lost money.

C. & L. railroad who w-as injured by a fall from his cab was taken from the Reid Memorial hospital to his home in Peru. It Is stated that he will recover although he will be disfigured for life. BROTHERHOODJN CHARGE. Prayer meeting is to be held at the First Baptist church on both Wednesday and Thursday evenings of this week. These prayer meetings are to be held under the auspices of the Brotherhood of the church.

A meeting for reorganl ration ot tha South Side Improvement association was held last evening and was but poorly attended. Adolph Blickwedel was elected president. Hans Roll, vice president. Matthew Von Teln secretary and Anton Stolle treasurer. The new directors chosen were Adolph. Blickwedel. Mattnew Von Peln. Anton Stolle. Cash Deal!, Conrad Zwlssler, John KnoUenberg. Walter Johnson and William Miller. This give the association practically the same officer that served last year. It was the general opinion that It would be tfa best Interests U the orsanitation to continue the same officers as they have started several new movements, which are expected to ba concluded in the near future. The association failed to make any move last evening toward offering the Rah Carpenter shop new induce ments to come to Richmond.
