CONCEIVES PLAN TO SEND FLEET OF AIRSHIPS CARRYING SCL- j
IER3 TO POUNCE UPON ISLAND BY NIGHT.
Berlin, Nov. 7. Herr Rudolf Martin
government councilor and "author of "The Coming War In the Air," who Is president of the recently formed Ger
man League for Motor-Airship Navi
gation, fired the imagination of his
hearers at a public meeting in Berlin
with a plan for the conquest of Eng
land by airships. fL.
lie asserted that the principal duty
of aerial navigators was to induce the
combined continental powers to con struct a fleet of 10,000 "Zeppelins,
each to carry twenty,1 soidierp, which should land and- capture the sleeping JSrltons before they could realize what
was takijag-piace,. . ...
Herr Martin disposed of the British
fleet by predicting . that they would
turn tafl and leave the coasts defenselees as soon ' as the aerial, armada hove in viewrh order to avoid being ft- 1 V"'! ' - m-m .
uiown oy iue sneus wnicn would otherwise be dropped onto -them from
the clouds.
The aerial armada would assemble
at leisure at points opposite the English coast and begin their death-deal-
voyage at, soon as the weather was
favorable.
Herr Martin thought that artillery
and cavalry could be landed in Eng
land quite as easily as 200,000 infantry. Before he finished his alluring
sketch of Great Britain's fall his audience was rocking with merriment

IS STRANGE, INDEED. Stream l Filled, But No Rain .. Fell. Y-'-'Y : ; : Crawrordsviile, Ind., Nov. 7. Harrison Breaks, a farmer living north of the city tells a strange story about a branch on his farm, which has been dry ail summer, but which had plenty of running water in it yesterday. The water could not have been caused by the rain, because there has been no rain here and the pastures everywhere are dry. Indeed, it has been so dry that thj bed of the empty stream has been dusty.

Learn-How-to-Shoot Order Being Obeyed by Police
Pop-pop-pop-pop-pop- bang! That noise emanating from the basement of the city building -that causes all visitors to stop and listen before proceeding further along the dark stairways or corridors is not the kicking of the horses in the stalls nor the breaking of cement blocks by the testing machine in the engineer's office. It is the report of the revolver of some bluecoat practicing to improve his skill with his "iton. The members of the local police department are well "heeled" and their skill is on the advanced grade. The "pop-pop" ; i3 made by the superintendent's little "32" and the bang comes from Hirchfield's SS Colt. Along about o'clock, there may be heard even a louder explosion, when Winters' auto-
matin plunges the lead into the target butt.. ; The members of the department find the addition of the target butt the source of no little pleasure. "Heine" Vogelsong has not found opportunity to try his skill and "Beau" McNally has but one round of cartridges, so Just at present they are out of the squad. The others are there with the goods and the interest that has been aroused is intense: At present SupL Bailey holds the high score, but he made it with his "gun," as he speaks of his 38 caliber. ,Hi "little 32" is a short barrel toy ind has difficulty in burying the ba I at ten paces. Bailey has made $J points out of a possible 25. Hlrschfield lout piade the most perfect shot, a bullet, frim his
revolver penetrating the center of the bull's eye. . Owing to the caliber of their revolvers the cost of cartridges la not a small item of expenditure to the policemen, and now they are considering some way to secure wholesale rates. Some of the weapons require a special shell. Bundy shoots a steel bullet and the idiosy-neracies of other members of the force are noticeable in their practice.
