Dark Clouds Which Hung Over Republican State Ticket Lifting. STATE STANDS BY HIM. FROM ALL LOCALITIES FAVORABLE REPORTS ARE BEING HEARD WHICH INDICATE HIS ELECTION NEXT "WEEK. Lafayette, Ind., Oct. 27. That James E. Watson is gaining rapidly and that his Democratic opponent, Mr. Marshall, is losing In a corresponding degree Is the message one hears from the political workers In every part of the tate during the closing week of the campaign.' "The tide has started toward Wateon," is the story that comes from every section of the commonwealth. "it looked pretty bad for the state ticket for a while, but everything is coming our way now," declare the precinct workers in many localities. The Watson campaign has left the "doldrums" and is moving rapidly ahead, with a good prospect of anchoring safely in the gubernatorial harbor one week from today. And, while the reports of gains by Watson are general over the state, it appears that nowhere else is he maiking greater headway than in the northwestern part. Two weeks ago Mr. Watson's friends were solicitous and the managers of the Democratic state campaign were in correspondingly high feather. The brewers, their allies and coherts had been both noisy and active. The tem perance element of the state had been quiet aid reserved, and there was doubt in ordinarily well-informed quarters whether it would "come across" for Watson. . The later developments of the cam palgn have been very encouraging to Mr. Watson's friends and have largely dispelled the apprehension that existed before the candidates started on the homestretch. Party Behind Watson.
