Boston, Mass., Oct. 3 Persistent rumors that Thomas W. Law son was
critically ill and the statement of a
New York brokerage house that It liad inside information that , he was
dead, brought forth confirmation of
the sad demise from Mr. Lawson. He issued this statement: ; "For hours my telephone has been besieged by the press from all over the lot with the question: 'Is it true you're dead? Wall street 6ays you are, and the market has advanced four points.' This is the fifth time in as many years that I have died to profit Wall street and ease the System's neuritis. Dying, like living, becomes stale and unprofitable when overdone. This is to confirm for the last time that I am dead and to demand the privilege of the . dead to remain dead. "For this concession to Wall street I claim the right in the future to announce my funeral after it has taken place, and to the privilege until I announce it, of being allowed to arrange the rites without Wall street butting in. THOMAS W. LAWSON."

New York, Oct. 3 Mrs. W. A. Speer and her daughter, Silvey, who married Russell Thomas, her father's chaffeur, in Atlanta last Tuesday, slipped quietly don to the Cunard line pier during the night and boarded the Campania which sailed for Liverpool today. ;The whereabouts of the Speers was unknown from noon yesterday when they and their baggage suddenly left the Hotel Astor where they had been stopping since since Mrs. Speer whisked her daughter away from her new husband and came to New York. rIt was at first thought that the Speers had gone to the Old Dominion line pier and had taken ship for their home. They did not go there, but went to ' some less known hotel than the Astor and left there during the night. Mrs. Speers. when seen in her state room Just before the Campania sailed, refused to make any statement.

After several months of "hard times," when work has been as scarce as it has been during the past ten months, almost every ' home especially at this season of the year, is in need of a little ready money. Winter's supply of provisions, clothing, fuel, etc., must be laid in, and ready money is of two-fold advantage to you it buys your supplies at a less price and it starts you through winter, out of debt to those with whom you deal. Again, it may be that sickness, scarcity of work, etcN have caused you to accumulate a number of debts, which were unavoidable, but which must be paid. Your creditors need their money to use in their business, and, as you can only give each a small amount each week, it will take you long time to get paid out, and it will be an unsatisfactory way, both for you and the men you owe. Howjmuch more to your advantage it would be, then, if you would get the money and pay all these bills. The people you owe will appreciate it, and on account of your promptness in settling your account, will be willing to give you credit again, and you, yourself, will find it much more satisfactory to pay ONE place each pay day instead of SEVERAL.
