One of Largest Gole Fish Hatcheries is in Wayne County
The gold fish exhibit on the vacant lot at the corner of Tenth and Main streets by Messrs. Noll and Mine of this county, promises to be one of the most attractive features of the carnival. S It Is not generally known that the gold fish business is a thriving, industry In this country and that millions of the little gold tinted fish are annually supplied to thousands of American homes. Also. It is not generally known that Wayne county is one of the largest gold fish markets In the
world, and that is the result of the immense hatchery Messrs. Noll and Mine have established on the farm of Harry Meek, south of the city. The gold fish at this preserve are kept in four ponds and they are sold almost as rapidly as they are bred. Recently a big Indianapolis mercantile concern ordered thirty thousand gold fish, but owing to the many previous orders it could not be filled. "We have in the ponds every species of gold fish, from the native kind tc? the beautiful Japaoea fish," said
Mr. Meek the othor day. "The fish we use for breeding purposes are some
times eighteen inches in length. It Is
the general impression that all gold fish are very smalL ; This is because gold fish kpt in acquariums and bowls do not grow. Let a gold fish live in natural surroundings and he will develop Ijito a good sized fish," he continued
