SAYS THAT HE BELIEVES WALLET CONTAINING RAILROAD PASSES, WAS LIFTED FROM , POCKET AT CONNERSVILLE. Chicago, Sept. 30. Accidentally, but as a fitting preface to the scheduled meeting of Mr. Bryan and Mr. Taft at a banquet here October 7, John W. Kern, democratic candidate for vicepresident, and James S. Sherman, republican candidate, met here. Mr. Kern was standing in the lobby of the Auditorium Annex when a bystander rushed up and asked to shake hands with the "next rice president." "Certainly, with pleasure," 6aid Mr. Kern. "But to make sure, you would better shake hands with that man over there the one with side whiskers. That's Mr. Sherman." The stranger did as suggested, and then Mr. Sherman and Mr. Kern began moving toward each other, and presently the long, sinewy hand of the second man on the Democratic ticket was grasped in the plump one of his republican opponent. They smiled
geniany, exenanged felicitations on the temperature and other commonplaces and then departed to catch trains. The Big Four pass belonging to Mr. Kern, and which was reported found yesterday, was lost, along with the other contents of his pocket book at Connersville, Ind. Mr. Kern- believes that in the press of the crowd the wallet was deftly lifted from his pocket. The pocket book minus the money, but with -the papers, Including the pass was found under a stone at Connersville. Mr. Kern stated that the pass had been given him In the routine manner as an attorney acting for the Big Four road in a number of damage cases.

Torturing Animals To' Assist Science
Is a Cruel Method to Follow, But It Has Saved Many Human Lives. ' , Prof. Pawlow, of Russia, was engaged for many years in experimental work, trying to learn the workings of digestion, especially the digestive glands. He, with able assistants, operated upon dogs, cats, guinea pigs and other animals. His methods were seemingly painful, but he gave to science a work which won the Nobel prize and made for him an undying fame. Science penetrated the secrets of nature. Prof. Pawlow saw animals digest food. He analyzed juices from every part of the digestive canal and stomach under all conditions of digestion. He spent years of ceaseless study amid the howling and dying beasts, but he won, and science today looks upon him as a great man. "To do a great right do a little wrong" Shakespeare said, and Prof. Pawlow obeyed this trite saying. Stuart's Dyspepsia Tablets are prepared by the most scientific process. They are produced by modern appliances, and meet the demand of 20th century chemistry. They give man the means to correct his infirmities of stomach and digestive organs. They enrich the blood, give nature the juices and fluids she lacks, stop the formation of noxious gases and the fermentation of food. They neutralize powerful acids and alkalies, which irritate and devour the stomach. They prevent and relieve bowel and intestinal trouble and soothe the nerves. They should be used after every meal whether one has dyspepsia and stomach trouble or the stomach be naturally healthy. By their use one may eat at all hours and whatever one desires and they help the system digest or throw off such food. They are thoroughly meritorious as their tremendous sale and popularity illustrate. Every drug store has them for sale, price 50c per package. If you would like to test their merits free, send us your name and address and we will send you a trial package by mail without cost. Address F. A. Stuart Co., 150 Stuart Bldg., Marshall. Mich.

Columbus, O., Sept. 30. The Wets were hard hit this week in 12 Ohio counties which took advantage of -the Rose local option law and as a result 287 saloons will be closed within the next 30 days. The victory was one of the most sweeping ever gained by the temperance forces, and from various points within the districts covered by the election come reports of celebrations to fittingly observe the progress made by the anti-saloon hosts.
