RESCUED FROM THE LAKE. 1 Buffalo, Aug. 31. After a five hundred mile flight the balloon Queen Louise which went up at Columbus Saturday, landed in Lake Erie Sunday noon twenty miles from land and was rescued by the steamer Mohegan duri lnS heavy seas The valve became un v.crkablo Saturday night and the balloon went up twenty-thousand feet j where the passengers nearly froze. The rising sun exploded the gas and caused a drop of ten thousand feet in four minutes. After circling around over the lake for nine hours, the passengers were forced to climb into the netting while the balloon was in water awaiting rescue by a passing steamer. After a thrilling experience, all arrived safely at Buffalo at noon, but lest all instruments, food, ballast, etc. LIBRARIANS TO MEET The annual meeing of the state library association will be held in Richmond about the middle of October. Mrs. Sarah Bernhart of the MorrissonReeves library; has been selected as a member of the state committee which will have charge of arranging the program. There will be about 150 attaches of the different libraries of the state in attendance, and a number from other parts of the country who are intereFted in this work. There will be speakers of national prominence secured to address the convention. Deaths and Funerals. RENEKER Harry Reneker. aged OS years, died Saturday night at the home of his brother, Henry Reneker, 4o South Sixth street. The body will be taken to Cynthiana. Ky., this morning for services and burial. ALEXANDER James Albert, the infant son of Mr. and Mrs? Frank Alexander, died Sunday afternoon at their home, 500 North Sixteenth 6treet. PAY SUIT FOR DAMAGES Isaac Smith Accused of Failing to Stop Auto on Signal. THREE OTHER SUITS FILED. James Martin has filed suit against Isaac E. Smith for ?1,HX damages. The plaintiff charges that on a road about a half mile west of Webster Smith drove his automobile so fast that the plaintiff's horse jumped into a ditch, injuring itself and wrecking the buggy. It is charged that Smith was warned to stop, but paid no heed to the warning. G. Horace Kerscofe, administrator of the estate of Minnie M. Linker, has filed suit in replevin against Senaah Mull. Carrie B. Ashinger has filed suit for divorce against Frederick Ashinger. She charges failure to provide, cruel and inhuman treatment and desertion. Similar charges are made In a suit for divorce filed by Mildred Reynolds against Roy Reynolds. COULDN'T RESIST POISONING BABY Rockville, Ind., Aug. 31. Margaret Phillips living three miles west of here has been arrested after a confession to the coroner that she administered poison Friday to her two months old baby. She is the daughter or a respectable farmer and also has a two year old child. She says she saw the poison during the absence of the remainder of the household and could not resist giving the baby a dose, which caused death. The grand Jury will act
