MILK QUESTION ISJITHL ONE State Food Commissioner Calls Meeting of Dairymen of State.
HOOVER TO MAKE SPEECH. CITY DAIRY INSPECTOR WILL DISCUSS THE QUESTION OF TUBERCULINE TESTS IN CATTLE MEET SEPTEMBER 7TH. Indianapolis, Aug. 25. In compliance with a call issued by H. E. Barnard, state food and drug commissioner, city and state health department officials of Indiana will meet jointly .Willi lepieseuiauie uonjuicu jl ui state on Sept. 7 and 8 for the purpose lot discussing conditions that will tend to better the supply of milk and other tdairy products throughout Indiana. The meeting will be held in the cham ber of the house of representatives at the state house, and arrangements -will be made to have the session an annual event. The meeting is the first of its kind to be held in Indiana, and Its Institution is the result of a similar meeting held some time ago in the interests of a pure water supply. "There are a lot of dairymen over the state who think they are being legislated out of existence by the en- ( actment of laws providing for a better supply of milk," said Mr. Barnard, "and the meeting is called that dairymen and health officers, especially milk inspectors, may get together on the Question and discuss the merits of compulsory inspection." The chief topics which will be discussed are the study of sanitary milk production and distribution and other problems which confront the dairymen and the state officials. Primarily, however, Mr. Barnard says, it is to hear the producers' side of the inspection proposition and to ascertain whether the dairymen think the laws providing for the inspectors' work are unjust. . . Dr. A. W. Bitting, state veterinarian will discuss the question of tuberculin tests of dairy cattle Dr. C. L. Hoover city dairy inspector of Richmond, and Dr. E. C.
