The proposition of a viaduct crossing of the Pennsylvania railroad's tracks at Eighth and Twelfth streets was discussed. The committee on public Improvements and the president will confer with the Chautauqua management In regard to the matter. NAMED LOCAL MEN Walter McConaha and E. G. Hill were appointed today by Governor Hanly as delegates to the National Farmers convention that is to be held at Madison, Wis., September 24 to 30. Both men are well known. Mr. Hill is one of the prominent rose growers of the country and a member of the E. G. Hill Floral company. Mr. McConaha is a member of the firm of the Richmond Cream company. This is no small honor as it is one of the biggest conventions held during the year in the Interests of, the farmers and will be attended by several hundred delegates. JOHN SCHROEDER WAS ACQUITTED John Schroeder, a. farmer living southeast of the city, who was arrested on a charge of cruel and Inhuman treatment, was acquitted of the charge this afternoon in the city court The court took this action at the request of the prosecutor, who said thai after making a tnorough Investigation of the case he was convinced that Schroeder severad the hoof of a young calf after it had nearly been cut off by a rope because he thought he could cure the. little animal. Infantry, has stated that he is very much pleased that Richmond is preparing to entertain the regiment in such a royal manner on the occasion of Its visit, October 3 and 4. He stated that he did not know when the troops would arrive, but assured the committee that the troops would be here for two days and possibly three nights. As the field at the Glen is not large enough for regimental movements, the soldiers will give band concerts, dress parades and different formations and drills. Col. Oreen said that he would do everything possible to make his part of the festival a success and that he would have the troops here as long as possible and afford as much entertainment as possible. The special committee of the Young Men's Business Club consisting of Perry J. Freeman, vice president of the club, Nimrod Johnson and Fred Krone, paid a visit to President Todd of the Indianapolis, Terre Haute and Eastern traction company at Indianapolis, yesterday, in order to secure a subscription from the traction company. Mr. Todd took the matter under advisement and will let the committee know In a few days. He will investigate the results of the good roads congress that was held in Richmond early In August It is believed that the company will give a subscription of a reasonable amount KIDS III QUARREL A family quarrel was given an airing this morning in the city court The prosecuting witness in the case was Mrs. Nora Caldwell. Her aunt, Mrs. Abe Marford, was the defendant and she was charged with malicious trespass. Prosecutor Jessup and Attorney P. J. Freeman, for the plaintiff, and Attorney H. U. Johnson for the defendant, wrangled long and loudly over the squabble, then Judge Converse assessed a fine of $1 and costs. STREET FIGHT LAST EVENING a fight between Joe Boling and Fred Kofskl made things Interesting for a time at South Eighth and E streets last evening. Kofski found trouble in Boling. It Is asserted Kofskl shook, hands with Boling and as Boling had a sore finger he asked Kofski to let go, but he kept squeezing harder until a left hander from Boling laid him low. They went to the street where they finished their slugging, Kofski coming out the worst, being badly cut up about the face and bruised otherwise. Neither were arrested as no charges were filed against them. HAMILTON GAVE BOND FOR $500 Fred Hamilton has been released on ?30O bond. This action was taken yesterday. The young man Is charged with, grand larceny, it being alleged he sold a motorcycle belonging to J. H. Ricker, of Eldorado, O. Prosecutor Jessup was asked today If there would be any other arrests made in the case. He said that he had not completed his Investigation of the matter and was not prepared to make any statement F. A. Colvln, who was implicated, has not been arrested and his attorney states he was not involved in any way in the fraud.

Although the threatening condition of the elements were ominous a large number of persons attended the band concert given last evening in the auditorium tent at the ehautauqua grounds by the Richmond, City band. The band gave about a dosen numbers in Its customary manner. The campers were the main persons in attendance last evening. More than SO families had moved on the grounds and it is expected that nearly all the campers will be settled by this evening and ready for active camp life by the opening of the ehautauqua.
