Washington, D. C, Aug. a The Bonaparte resignation rumor has appeared at Washington again aad with more directness and detail than before. It is declared that Mr. Bonaparte has made up his mind to leave the cabinet immediately after the November election and that Wade H. Ellis of Ohio, will be named by President Roosevelt to succeed him. He is the man who drew the first draft of the Chicago platform. ; Some weeKs ago Mr. Ellis was offered the position of assistant to the attorney general, made vacant by the promotion of Milton D. Purdy to a federal judgeship. One report has it that Ellis thinks that if he is entitled to any recognition for his service In connection with the writing of the republican platform he should be appointed attorney general, and is holding off with a view to landing the plum. In the report here no specific reason is given for the alleged retirement of Mr. Bonaparte.

Chicago, Aug. 6. Scores of detectives are trying to solve the mystery of the murder of a young boy, believed to be a Greek, whose body was hacked to pieces and the mutilated portions thrown into Mud Lake and the drainage district canal. So far the legs and torso have been recovered, but the head and arms are missing. One foot, the left was recovered with the body. The police believe the child's slanghter may have been committed by some society of padrones. The murdered boy was apparently not more than 14 years of age. The Greek quarter of the city has been scurried over in a vain effort to learn of some missing young Greek. This seach will be continued in this and other cities. Detectives able to speak Greek will be pressed into the case. The theory of the police is that the murder was the outcome of an endeavor on the part of Greek padrones to enslave an unwilling boy.

A dispatch to the : Globe from Rome gives Cardinal Gib- , bons as authority for the statement that Miss Katherine Elkins is to be received into the Catholic church before her marriage to the Duke of Abruzzl. , The Globe correspondent says Cardij nal Gibbons discussed the matter with the Pope at his recent audience. Pope Pius is said to have expressed great pleasure on learning that Miss Elkins was about to become a Cath- . olic and an Italian Princess.

Without giving a thought to her own danger, seven-year-old Adeline Delisi entered the blazing cellar of her home and rescued her father Dominic Dellsl, who had been overcome by the smoke and flames. Her face, scorched as she went down the steps leading to the cellar the girl continued on her mission. Groping about the floor she found her father and succeeded in dragging him up the stairs to safety. Delisi tried to find a gas leak with a lighter match and an explosion and fire followed.
