Ice Is Being Shipped Into Richmond in Large Quantities.
HOWARD QUITS THE FIELD.
It was reported today that persons at Anderson have shipped a car load of ice to this city for the purpose of
delivery upon sale to private consumers. Last week a man named Howard brought a car of ice Into the city and advertised it for sale to individual purchasers. The advertisements were carried in local newspapers but the ice was not sold. It was but a short time until negotiations were entered into by Howard and another party said to have been a representative of the Johnson & Rettig Ice company and Howard left the city soon afterward. He did not take his ice with him and neither was it placed on the market by him. Confirmation of the rumor was not obtained. The fact that a car loaded
with ice stood on a switch at the Pennsylvania freight station was not denied but the name of the consignor or consignee was not given out. The assertions that this city Is in the grip of an ice combination has spread throughout the state and it is known to a certainty that the proposition of of shipping ice here has been considered by out of town dealers and manufacturers.
