Indianapolis. Ind., June V. State Prosecutor Hooton has received a letter threatening his life if Harry Bru

naugh, convicted of defrauding the city, is sent to prison. John S. Duncan, who assisted in the Brunaugh prosecution, "is also threatened. The letter has been turned over to the postoffice authorities, who are investigating. What has alarmed the prosecutor is that the letter was evidently written by an educated person, who tried to disguise his hand, and not by a crank. As there are a number of cases pending in which frauds on the city and county are charged, it is believed the letter was intended to deter further prosecutions.

Chicago, June 10, The draft of the

labor plank, the incorporation of which in the republican platform will be demanded by President Samuel Gompers and his colleagues of the American Federation of Labor, was completed yesterday by the executive council of the federation in session at the Kaiserhof Hotel. ' While Mr. Gompers refused to give out the substance of its contents, it is known the document contains three leading features. Each of the three demands is accompanied by lengthy explanations of the reasons why labor insists on their incorporation In the platform. The three demands of labor in subsance, are as follows: , Three Things Demanded. A clear and unequivocal declaration against the abuse of the injunction power of the courts in labor eases, with a declaration against the issuance of injunction in cases involving the right of labor organization to strike and to take concerted action against concerns listed by labor as "unfair"; a statement that labor is not property or a commodity, and that therefore labor should not be enjoined under "property rights" acts and on the ground of being in restraint of trade. An amendment to the Sherman anti trust law to exempt labor unions and agricultural and horticultural associations from the penalties of the law and

to exclude them from the category of trusts and combinations of capital organized for the production and distribution of commodities. A clear statement of the difference between labor and farmers' organizations and the so-

called trusts and industrial and busi

ness enterprises. An elective federal judiciary. Labor Leaders Approve. The subcommittee, headed by President Gompers, finished the draft at noon. It was transcribed immediately into typewritten form and at the afternoon session Secretary Frank Morrison read it before the members of the council, who placed their final approval on the phrasing. The plank proper comparatively is brief, though with the explanations of the labor leaders it forms a document of twenty type-written pages of 5.000 words. "We have completed the demands

we shall make before the resolutions committee," said President Gompers. "Out of courtesy to the members of that committee the draft of our demands will not be made public until it first has been presented to the committee on resolutions." "When will you appear before the committee?" Mr. Gompers was asked. "The executive council or the American Federation of Labor is rady to go before the committee at the first opportunity," he answered. "Does the anti-injunction plank of the committee meet with your approval?" "It decidedly does not meet with my approval." Pays Respects to Cannon. In discussing Speaker Cannon's arrival in Chicago and his attitude of opposition to any sort of anti-injunction planks in the platform, Mr. Gompers said: "When Cannon states at this time that he will fight the proposition of inserting an anti-injunction plank he simply reaffirms his position on that matter. Labor knows Cannon's stand." While Mr. Gompers was speaking a bill poster from the Cannon headquarters walked briskly into the lobby of the Kaiserhof and unceremoniously tacked up a picture of Uncle Joe in one of the front windows. "That's a fine how do you do," re

marked Secretary Edward N. Nockels of the Chicago Federation of Labor,

who was in the group. President Gom

New York, June !(. Four persons were drowned last night when an automobile, carrying a pleasure party of six, became unmanageable, shot at wild speed down West Fifty-sixth street and bounded from an open pier into the North river. The machine

turned over in its plunge, holding the four victims fast in their seats. The dead: Adeline Berdon, aged lt years. Mrs. Rose Coleman, aged 2. years. John Coleman, aged 27 years. Virginia Knight, aged S years. John Bauer, the chauffeur, was carried into the river with the machine but managed to free himself and swim to safety. John Nolan, one of the party, jumped from the runaway machine as it neared the end of the dock. Bauer was taken into custody by the police. ' A diver brought the body of Miss Berdon to the surface and reported that there was no other body in the automobile. An anchor chain was attached to the machine and it was hoisted to the dock. The body of Mr. Coleman was found wedged under the seat of the tonneau, but the body of the little Knight girl was not recovered.
