Chester, Pa., June 3. Three Chester traction cars were blown up by dynamite last night. The concussions lifted the cars from the tracks and turned them broadside. When the attack was made the motorman, conductor and passengers fled.

Forty deputy sheriffs were quickly

on the scene, but they found great difficulty in dispersing the crowds. The leaders of the mob are known and arrests may follow. Several deputy sheriffs who were on their way to Chester pike were attacked by a crowd of strike sympathizers. There were shouts of scab, and some of the deputies drew their revolvers and kept the mob at bay until they reached Kddystone, where they were reenforced by IIO of the Chester pike officers, and the crowd was dispersed.

CHICAGO IS A

MORMON CENTER

JOHN JOHNSON. At the bis Jefferson banquet at the coliseum last niht, neither of the several speakers mentioned the name of Governor Johnson of Minnesota as one of the great living members of the party. In the light of the fact that the Johnson Press Bureau states that Johnson will be the next democratic nominee instead of Bryan, the failure to even mention the man's name caused consklerable surprise and speculation.

THE CITY NEWS IN BRIEF

In Ten Years It Will Have Bigger Gigantic Settlement.

Pittsburg. Pa., June 3. "Chicago, and not Salt Lake City, is now the headquarters of Mormonism in America, in all but the name. The missionary branch has been transferred from Utah, where it was too closely watched. It distributes tracts to every part of the world." This was the statement before the United Presbyterian General Assembly by Hev. J. G. Nutting of Cleveland. ()., who is in charge of the United Presbyterian Gospel Mission at Salt Lake

City.

"Chicago will, in 1 years' time have

a greater Mormon settlement than Salt

Lake," declared Pastor Nutting.

Washington, June 3. Because Pres

ident Roosevelt's latest declaration

that "no friend of mine" will continue

efforts to renominate the President

was writen to one of the West Virginia delegates to the Chicago convention for the specific purpose of heading off what appeared to bea united effort among certain delegates from that state to revive the Roosevelt sentiment, the general publication of the letter is regarded as not expedient or desirable. Resides this, the President's friends, echoing his sentiments, say that the President has expressed himself to the country on this subject in terms which admit of no uncertainty.

Grace Mayberry, aged 10. is alleged to have been kidnaped, IT, hours after her marriage, by Edgar Suttles, aged '2-, her rejected suitor. A warrant was sworn out against Suttles by the husband. He alleges Suttles seized her by the throat on the street and threatened to kill her if she did not accompany him to her mother's home. The bride's mother, Mayberry charges, favored the other suitor and aided in the kidnaping. Mayberry claims his bride was locked in her mother's garret. Suttles recently came here from Ellsberry. Mo. Mayberry is a Macoupin County farmer His bride postponed the marriage several times after Suttles arrived. Deputy Sheriff Crowe declined to serve the warrant as Mrs. Mayberry stated she married Mayberry to be rid of his importunities and denied Suttles abducted her.
