Cars Are Wrecked and Shots Were Fired by the Police.
"KILL THE POLICE.
THIS WAS THE FAVORITE YELL OF A MOB WHICH SURROUNDED THE BLUECOATS OUTSIDE HELP MAY BE CALLED UPON.
Chester, Pa., May 2fi. Riot followed riot in the street-car strike here last night. Mob violence was in force in sections of the city, and not less than a dozen strike-breakers, who were in charge of the cars of the Chester Traction company fared badly at the hands of strike sympathizers. At 10::;0 o'clock a mob of no less than :;.0(m men caarged a car at Seventh and Kdgemont avenue. They had followed the car for four squares, and were throwing stones and hooting the police who were in charge of the car, having a number of prisoners aboard who had heen creating a disturbance at the car barn. There were a dozen bluecoats on the car, and each had a revolver in his hand. Following a shower of bricks Sergeant NVwlen fired into the crowd, and his action was followed by more shots from the revoher of Demby. a
colored policeman.
Hut the snots did not frighten the mob. There were yells of "Kill the police,'" "Wreck the car,'' "Shoot to kill." The crowd paid no attention to the officers until the City hall was reached. Here they stopped and ilie officers alighted. Sergeant Xoden was the first one to make a move. "Get back.'' he cried; "get back or I will shoot." The crowd did not budge. "Come on, men," he commanded, "Make these people get back." Trampled to the Ground. The crowd turned and women and children were trampled to the ground. Tne "fun" came last night, when dozens of cars were attacked. One car at Third and Jeffrey streets is wrecked, and it is said that there is not a car in the barn which is in anythink like good condition. A bullet went through a Hargreaves Hotel window, narrowly missing several men who were drinking at the bar. The Chief Heart Sore. "We had expected that our people would keep order," said Chief of Police Pennington. "I am heart sore, and must admit that I scarcely know what to do. It is possible that we will be forced once more to ask for outside assistance. This will become necessary unless we can secure additional special officers. ' Special officers seem hard to got. A number of these who were sworn in last night handed in their stars tonight. It was evident that they had been "seen."

ROYAL HOUSEHOLD VICTIM OF SUIT
Portuguese Butchers, Bakers And Candlestick Makers After Their Money.
COMPLICATED SITUATION.
THE DOWAGER QUEEN AND HOUSEHOLD HAVE RECEIVED NO MONEY SINCE ASSASSINA TION OF KING CARLOS.
Paris. May 26. M. Cachard, attorney for Mme. Anna Gould, who is at present engaged in preparing the contract for Mme. Gould's marriage to Prince Helie de Sagan. authorizes the absolute denial of the story that the couple were secretly married at Hoboken. X. J., on the eve of their departure from America. The Gould family's opposition to the marriage has been withdrawn. The bans will be published next Sunday and the marriage will take place a fortnight later. There will be civil and religious ceremonies, the latter under the Protest
ant rite. The couple will be married I under what is known in France as the ; "separation of property regime, "-each !
party to remain in absolute control of his "or her own fortune, which, in the event of death, shall not pass to the survivor, but to the heirs of the deceased. After the marriage the couple will reside in France. Count Honi de Catellane is prepared the moment the bans are published to bring suit to transfer the custody of the Castellane children to himself on the ground that the Prince de Sagan is not fit to be their stepfather. The count, however, evidently is not yet apprised of the exact situation, as he imacines that Mme. Gould is still hesitating with regard to the marriage. Ho counts upon the continued opposition of George Gould, who, he says ia expected in Paris witiua a fortnight.
Lisbon. May i.-Thp royal household of Portugal is being besieged by its creditors, and the newspapers of Lisbon are filled with notices of suits brought by tradespeople against its members. The courts already have awarded a butcher .SlMo and costs, the amount of an unpaid meat bill against Dowager Queen Maria Pia. and the Duke of Oporto. This situation arises from the fact that members of the roal household have not received a penny from the state since King Carlos and his son were assassinated, because the new civil list can not be approved until after the accounting of the reign of the late king is completed. Alfonso Costa, republican leader, has proclaimed his readiness, if the government desires it. to go to the bottom of the regicide plot. He declares that Luciano Castro, leader of the Progressists, and Senhor Vilhena. leader of the Regenerationists. received advance warning of the plot, but did not advise Premier Franco, as they knew their own followers were involved.
