WAS DISAPPOINTED Congressman Adair Will Get No Slice of Pork When Barrel Is Opened.

BILL PASSES HOUSE TODAY

that all the other Indiana democratic congressmen drew handsome slices of

"pork." Mr. Dixon petting a his appropriation for Columbus. The buildins bill was reported yesterday afternoon and will pass the house today.

Washington, May 15. When the

minibus building bill was reported to

the house late yesterday afternoon

Congressman Adair was treated to a surprise. His name was not in the pot, nor was the nice, fat slice of pork he expected. The congressman bad understood all along that he would get an appropriation of $50,000 for a site and buildins at Elwood, but there was no such appropriation. This was especially disappointing, as Adair had put into the hopper half a dozen public building bills for towns in his district more bills than any other Indiana congressman introduced and he felt confident that in turning out its grist of appropriations the committee would favor at least one of his towns. Will Appeal to Hemenway. The fact that Adair is a democrat Eeekins re-election in a close district may or may not have had something to do with the omission. The slight imtosed upon Adair is

FOR PUBLIC CONTROL

Socialists' Platform Advocates Monopolization of Public Utilities.

Greensfork, Ind., May 15. Horace Floyd, a former resident of this place has been employed for a year as civil engineer in the construction of the Panama canal in the canal zone. He has just returned from there for a two months' vacation and is now with his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Floyd at St. Augustine, Florida.

Every Woman in This Vicinity will be glad to know that local grocers now have in stock "OUR-PIE," a ready to use preparation in three varieties for making lemon, chocolate and custard pies. By purchasing and preparing the choicest pie ingredients in large quantities the manufacturers are able to name the low retail price of 10 cents for a package which makes two large pies. A very economical and satisfactory food product for everybody.

PROTECTION FOR WOMEN.

Chicago, May, 15. Socialist party

delegates took up last night the r

ports of committees on resolutions

and platform. The platforms had not

been adopted when adjournment was taken until today. It is believed the platform will be accepted practically in its present shape. The demands include national ownership of public utilities and of all great industries of national scope "in which competition has virtually ceased to exist"; extension of the public domain to include mines, quarries, oil wells, forests and water power and scientific reforestation of timber lands and reclamation of swamp lands. Touching the labor situation, it calls for a shortening of the work day, the securing to workmen of at least a day and a half each week for rest, prohibition of employment of women in harmful vocations and of children under 16, and forbidding interstate transportation of products of child labor, convict labor and the products of uninspected factories. A demand is made lor the abolition

of the senate and of the veto power of the president, and that the constitution

be made amendable by a majority vote: that all judges be elected by the people for short terms and that, the power of injunction be curbed by immediate legislation.

San Francisco, May 15. San Franciscos entertainment of the Atlantic fleet is drawing to a close and the ships will set sail for Puget Sound Monday at 10 o'clock. The three days of steaming at sea are looked forward to by the officers with genuine pleasure as a relief from the arduous social duties that recently have been imposed upon them. The fleet has been in home waters one month and during all that time there have been but two evenings of quiet and rest for officers and men afforded by night steaming. Executive officers are complaining of conditions aboard and declare that much of the splendid efficiency attained during the long cruise has been almost wiped out by the relaxation that set in with the long line of entertainments.
