FEARS FORCOUNTRY Senator Teller Says State's Rights May Be Minimized Eventually.
COMING STEP BY STEP.
Washington, May S The venerable Senator Teller, of Colorado, in discussing the child labor bill for the District of Columbia, which was passed, offered some thoughts about the general tendency toward centralization in government which are attracting much attention. He said: "I think there has been no time in lour history, not even at the close of the great war, when the relations between the states and general government were so critical and so dangerous to the states as they are today. My reading of history leads me to believe that encroachments of power have always come insidiously. They have rarely come openly. "There has rareiy come a time, in the oorse of r'story in these affairs when a movement on the part of some tyrant, as it was In the case of Napo
leon III, ia France, when a sudden troke may bring him into notoriety and may change the whole form of government, but that is always prepared beforehand. Coming Step by Step. "There is not any danger of anybody rising up in this country and destroying the relations between the states and general government, but tbere Is danger that, step by step, we 'ahall' disregard the relations and we shall minimize not the general government's power there is no danger of that but we shall minimize the 'state's powers and the state's rights, and by and by we shall reach a point "where laws will pass through this senate, just as this bill will pass, without proper consideration and without proper thought, and sometimes without the knowledge of this body or the other In the confusion that, occurs in the legislative bodies of this country f ours.

those who have stopped at larger local hotels since the terrible fire have taken the utmost precaution in having rooms regarded as saie assigned to them. So accustomed to life in hotels are traveling salesmen that they rarely think of the dangers that they are constantly exposed to. but the Aveline fire has opened the eyes of this light hearted, care free fraternity and as a result, local hotel men state, traveling men are "hotel shy." Many local traveling men who have registered in larger local hostelries this week have taken the unusual precaution to have bell boys show them the various exits of the hotel, the locations of the stairways and the fire escapes. Local hotel men are assuring their guests that their hostelries are safe as any home and visitors at these hostelries are assured of their own safety. Few things, possibly, ever aroused the commercial traveling men to the condition of hotels at which he stop?.

tlesnake to bite him and is then going to demonstrate that prayer will save him and heal the wound. The Crabbites form a religious sect that has flourished in Brown county for some time. It is led by the Rev. Henry Crabb and one of its heliefs is that the bite of a venomous reptile will not poison the person who has been bitten if tha person is a firm believer in the faith and also if that person and other members of the flock prays hard enough. Several demonstrations with poisonous snakes have been made and some of the members of the congregation have handled tho snakes during the meetings and one or two have been bitten. People in the neighborhood were skeptical, however and declared that the poison fangs had been removed from the snakes. How Test is to be Made. The present plan is for the members of the church to assemble out of doors next Sunday afternoon. They will then select one member from the congregation and that member will re
move the lid from the box. The snake is expected to strike at once and if it does not strike it will be worried with a stick until it does. Then, as soon as the person is struck by the reptile and the poison injected into the believer's arm or hand the prayers will begin.
