Wants to Give Chicago University Another Donation Of $600,000.

STRING ATTACHED TO GIFT.

Chicago. April IS. John D. Rockefeller is more than anxious to give to the University of Chicago an additional $O0.O0O. In a letter to the board of trustees he say he will be bitterly disappointed if he Is not called upon to draw his chfeck for that amount. The $600,000 which Mr. Rockefeller is so anxious to give away, was promised by him to the university for the Harper Memorial librrry fund on condition that the . university and the friends of the late President William K. Harper should raise an additional ?JOrt,O0O and that the fund should be completed March 31, 1S08. Up to date $157,000 has been raised.

Mr. Hock pitched for the Phillies yesterday and let the Giants down with six stingy hits. His name listens like a sore throat. He should be a good spitball artist. The Columbus team has been strengthened by the addition of Catcher James of the New York Nationals. The Senators now look good for another championship. Ownie Bush still continues to set the Indianapolis fans wild by his fielding and base running. Ownie can be depended upon to do some batting. An unfeeling Chicago sporting scribe, in giving his account of the White Sox-Quincy exhibition game, took the following unkind fling at Casey Horn, who is with the Quincy outfit: "Look well at Mr. Horn's name as it appears in the box score perhaps, gentle reader, you will never see it there again."

Joy reigns supreme in Smoketown.

Word was received today that the players on the two polo teams that will battle here next week under the auspices of the Elks, will arrive in the city Monday. Burns has signed up to fight Squires and the match calls for 2o rounds on May 11 at London. Here's guessing it don't last five rounds. The Cincinnati base ball manage ment has also passed an ordinance forbidding the wearing of the "merry widow" hat. The poor "merry widow"' she is certainty getting her bumps. John Garrells has commenced work for the Olympic tryout already. Garrells intends to figure some in the shot putting.

Mike Twin Sullivan and

Gardner have signed up for a twenty-! merit of five round bout before Jeffries club, ; there is,

April 23. The purse will be 3,000.

the performances, for it ;

those who see the inferior

performance will become "knockers" instead of "boosters" and the company will be DARED back instead of welcomed. The plays selected for the repertoire have much to flo with this continuous invitation to return, heing very different and still very pleasing. Gennett all next week.
