Kokomo, Ind., April S. A chain ol rircumstantial evidence has been wovjen about Worley Osborn, Fairy Mcclain's sweetheart, who shot her to cleath Tuesday night. Wednesday afternoon an indictment was returned by the grand jury charging him with lb murder of the girl. Although a number of circumstances involve Osftborn in the net of suspicion, there is aio positive proof that he is the guilty ."jnan. Noell Nay, the 10-year-old son ; tf Mrs. Mattie Nay, at. whose home the murder occurred, says he saw Osborn I fire the fatal shot. Because his mother, Susan Carlin, had sent him to various reformatory' institutions jn which he was a prisoner for many years, Barnard Carlin shot and instantly killed her at her home in Quiney street, Brooklyn. Young Carlin had just been released from the reformatory at Napanooh, where he perved a sentence for stealing a horse and wagon. When Carlin was freed from the reformatory the superintendent gave him $10 for a new start in life. He arrived in Brooklyn yesterday and went to the apartments where his mother lived with his sister Mary. When his mother opaned the door he thrust the revolver inner face and fired five bullets into her head. He then attempted to shoot his sister, hut the revolver was empty. He was captured after a desperate struggle in whicii he severely injured one of his captors. He told the police that he killed his njother "because she made me do 'bits' all my life." With the merger of the two medical colleges in Indianapolis, physicians connected with both schools predict that Indianapolis next fall will have a school that will bid fair to become one of the largest in the country, because of the immense amount of tributary territory from which it will draw patronage. It is believed that in a very short time it will eclipse the medical school at Ann Arbor, Mich. The school will draw from a tributary population of oOO.OOo people. In this respect inasmuch as it will be the only school of its kind in the city and the largest in the state, it will have the advantage ever the medical colleges in New York and Chicago. There are twenty medical colleges in the former city, with its population of 4.)i0,noo or more and fifteen colleges in the latter city with its population of nearly 3,000.oo.

Terre Haute. Ind., April !. Authentic reports reached the city that the Linton miners have dropped their picks and refused to continue work, an action which is in violation of the agreement between the joint convention of miners and operators last week. National Board Member Hargrove is in the city and will go to Linton tomorrow with President Van Horn. Vice President Curry. Secretary Fox and Board Member "W. P. Rollins aud attempt to induce the recalcitrant miners to return to work. The action of the Linton miners, the officers say, is due to a misunderstanding of the situation. The delegates voted for the resolution by which work was to be continued under the old contract until a new one could be arranged, yet the locals are disregarding it. The report that the delegates of both Clinton and Linton fields opposed the resolution was erroneous. The opposition comes entirely from the miners in the field.

Brooks, head of the fine arts department, says the hats srp a revival of a stle in vogue in the latter part of the eighteenth century.
