Kokomo, Ind., April 8 A chain ot circumstantial evidence has been wovn, about Worley Osborn, Fairy Mc--Clain's sweetheart, -who shot her to Ieath Tuesday night. Wednesday afternoon an Indictment was returned by the grand jury charging him with the murder of the girl. Although a ..number of circumstances involve Os"born in the net of suspicion, there is oio positive proof that he is the guilty man. Noell Nay, the lOyear-old son of Mrs. Mattie Nay, at whose home the murder occurred, says he saw Osborn llre the fatal shot. Upon the evidence of this child the indictment for murder in the first degree was returned. If Osborn Is the guilty man he has proven himself a genius in covering up his tracks. He eluded the dragnet of the officers yesterday and last night Sheriff Joseph Lindley. exhausted by hours of searching, returned to the county jail completely discouraged and confessing that neither he nor the police had a single tangible clew as to the whereabouts of the .accused man. Rumors that Osborn has committed suicide, are f.ving thick and fast. Officers scoff at this story .nd say that the accused man is not of the character to end his own life, but lof the sort who will fight to the last 'ditch before he will be taken.

Young Carlin had just been released from the reformatory at Napanooh, where he served a sentence for stealing a horse and wagon. When Carlin was freed from the reformatory the superintendent gave him $10 for a new start in life. When his mother opened the door he thrust the revolver in her face and fired five bullets into her head. He then attempted to shoot his sister, but the revolver was empty. He was captured af.ter a desperate struggle in which he severely injured one of his captors. He told the police that he killed his mother "because she made me do 'bits' all my life." Union of Medical Colleges Brings Indiana in the Limelight.
WISEACRES' PREDICTION.
Indianapolis, Ind., April (t. With the merger of the two medical colleges in Indianapolis, physicians connected with both schools predict that Indianapolis next fall will have a school that will bid fair to become one of the largest in the country, because of the immense amount of tributary territory from which it will draw patronage. It is believed that in 'a very short time it will eclipse the medical school at Ann Arbor, Mich. The school will draw from a tributary population of 500,000 people. In this respect inasmuch as it will be the only school of its kind in the city and the largest in the state, it will have the advantage over the medical colleges in New York and Chicago. There are twenty medical colleges in the former city, with its population of 4,0o,Oiio or more and fifteen colleges in the latter city with its population of nearly 3.00O.OO0.

The first bottle gave me great relief, and after taking the second bottle, I was entirely well." A. G. Liuken !fe O

Terre Haute, Ind., April I). Authentic reports reached the city that the Linton miners have dropped their picks and refused to continue work, an action which is in violation of the agreement between the joint convention of miners and operators last week. National Board Member Hargrove is in the city and will go to Linton tomorrow with President Van Horn. Vice President Curry, Secretary Fox and Board Member "W. P. Rollins and attempt to induce the recalcitrant miners to return to work. The action of the Linton miners, the officers say, is due to a misunderstanding of the situation. The delegates voted for the resolution by which work was to be continued under the old contract until a new one could be arranged, yet the locals are disregarding it. The report that the delegates of both Clinton and Linton fields opposed the resolution was erroneous. The opposition comes entirely from the miners in the field.

Bloomington, Ind., April 9. "Merry Widow" hats have taken Indiana University by storm with the result that several of the professors have put the ban on them in their class rooms. Before the spring vacation the big hats were unknown in Bloomington, but nearly fvery coed came back to school Monday with one of the giant straws, and the campus is dotted with them. Prof. A. M. Brooks, head of the fine arts department, says the hats are a revival of a style in vogue in the latter part of the eighteenth century. They were called leghorns because they came from Leghorn, Italy.
