Notwithstanding that Judge Converse has given a ruling favorable to the state in the case originating from the raid made by the police on the Eagles club rooms last fall, ihis ruling has not been appealed to the circuit court. Judge Converse states that Attorney John F. Robbins for the defendants, and Prosecutor Jessup agreed to file an order for the appeal of the case to the circuit court, but that this order has not been forthcoming. 7 "You say the victim was shot in the head?" queried the coroner. "Yes. sir." replied the w Rness. "Previous to the shooting had there been any trouble or threats that would have led the victim to expect the shot? COMMITTEE APPOINTED. IT WILL LOOK AFTER THE PRELIMINARY SURVEY AND DISPOSE OF STOCK NECESSARY TO LINE'S REALIZATION. All towns and cities along the line of the proposed interurban route between Decatur and Richmond to connect with the Fort Wayne, Decatur and Springfield line, were well represented at a meeting held at Winchester last evening. A committee consisting of one member from each town and city was appointed to arrange for a preliminary survey of the line and to dispose of stock. There was confidence expressed by all in the project and it now looks as if the result may be a traction line north from this city a thing that has been dreamed of for many years by local business men. The local representatives of the Richmond Commercial club, who attended the meeting were Cash Beall, L. B. Nusbaum, George Dilks, Will Qulgg, John Hasemeier, V. F. Starr. Mr. Beall was chosen as the local committeeman. Unusual interest has been shown in the prospect for a traction line at Fountain City Lynn, Winchester, Ridgeville, Portland and Decatur. It is apparent that all will be willing to help the cause along as much as possible. The committee appointed to make final arrangements, will hasten its work as much as possible. The Twilight Of life. The muscles of the stomach in old e are not as strong or active as in youth and in coateQuence oid people are Terr subject to constipation and indigestion. Many seldom have a bowel movement without artificial aid. Many, also, havo unpleasant eroctarions of rss from tne stomach after eatine. All this can be avoided by the nse of Dr. Caldwell's Syrup Pepsin, which permanently regruiates the bowels so that passages come naturally, and so strengthens the stomach that food is digested without discomfort. TWO HEARINGS CLASHED. An argument that became so fervid the court had to rap for order, occurred in the Wayne circuit court room this morning. As is customary, the Smith-Vaughan case was concerned in the squabble. This case has afforded more press copy in its preliminaries than any other in the recent history yf the Wayne circuit. The episode of this morning developed because the Smith-Vaughan case is set. for trial next Monday and the McGriff vs. P., C, C. & St. L. R. R.. is set for the following day. Each of these cases will require about a week for trial. John L. Rupe, counsel for the railroad company, asked that the McGriff case be continued to some later date, as it would be impossible to take it up while the Smith-Vaughan case holds the attention of court. John F. Robbins, attorney for McGriff, objected. He claimed the McGriff case had been set on April 14, before the other case was 6et for April 13, and argued the court should not grant a continuance in the McGriff case to a specified time. The court could not see the matter In the same light as did Mr. Robbins, and extended the time until April 17, when it probably will be known what the final date of hearing will be.
