The annunciation was made at the time the Virgin was living at Nazareth. Her emblem, the lily, is usually placed between her and the angel Gabriel, who holds in one hand a scepter surmounted by a fleur-de-lis on a lily stalk; generally a scroll is proceeding from his mouth with the words "Ave Mara grata plena," and sometimes the Holy Spirit, represented as a dove, is seen descending towards the Virgin. r There is an idea prevalent among a few that the Roman Catholics worship the Virgin Mother; this is wholly erroneous, for they only hold a deep regard aud respect for her as she was the mother of God when the "Word" was made flesh." D. PULTS IS AFTER BIG DAMAGES Seeks $10,000 From C, C. & L. for Injuries Resulting In Death of Wife. ACCIDENT TWO YEARS AGO. MRS. PULTS SURVIVED UNTIL WEEK AGO NIECE OF LOCAL MAN INJURED AT SAME TIME, DIED TRIAL AT HAMILTON. Interest is shown locally in the damage suit now being heard in the circuit court at Hamilton. Ohio, in which John D. Pults, cashier of the bank at College Corner, seeks to recover $H,ooo from the Chicago. Cincinnati & Louisville railroad company for the death of his wife. The wreck in which Mrs. Pults was injured so badly that death ensued, also caused the death of Miss Jennie Holland, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Corner, and the ons of this city. Holland, of College niece of Charles LyUpon the conclusion of the testimony of Mr. Pults, the counsel for the defendant moved that the court instruct the jury to bring in a verdict for the defense, alleging Mrs. Pults' death was due solely to her own carelessness. This the court refused to do on the ground it was a matter for the jury to determine as to how far Mis. Pults was responsible for her fate through her own carelessness. Testimony for the railroad company began yesterday. The estate of Mrs. Pults has a suit of $15,000 ponding besides that of the woman's husband. The accident, in which Mrs. Pults was mortally wounded and Miss Holland lost her life occurred two years ago last December. Mrs. Pults survived lier injuries until last week, when death resulted. Kver since the accident she had been under the care of a physician and specialist at Cincinnati. One arm. which suffered severe injuries, had been the cause of constant suffering and a number of the nerves and ligaments were removed by an operation in the hope of giving relief. Saturday, a special matinee for children will be given at the New Phillips and as this week's bill is a lively one they will be pleased by it. One of the hardest parts of a vaudeville program to make interesting is the musical end. Few have succeeded better at this than the Imperial Musical Trio, which is at the New Phillips this week. Clark's Comedians. Clark's Comedians, headed by Richard Bly, a mental wonder, are not appearing at the Gennett today because "The "Sweetest Girl in Dixie" has the right of way. The Clark company will resume on Friday afternoon and continue for the remainder of the week. "The Sweetest Girl in Dixie." The Galveston, Texas, News, says of tonight's offering at the Gennett: Two appreciative audiences were entertained yesterday at the matinee and evening performance of "The Sweetest Girl in Dixie." at the Grand. Tt is a play full of beart interest, clean and wholesome throughout. It deals with old Southern aristocracy, with a designing villain from Northern districts, who is from the type of which carpet-baggers were drafted. A farmer mortgages his homestead and places himself at the mercy of the villain who desires to marry his daughter. They were on the verge of being dispossessed of the ancient home when the hero, a dashing Yankee cousin, comes to the rescue to the discomfiture of the villains, aud the delight of the "darkies." LA F0LLETTE NAMED. Judge John M. La Follette. of the Jay circuit court, has been named as special judge to hear the case of Honey vs. Laughlin, tipon a petition for a change of venue. PROTRACTED MEETINGS. Protracted meetings are in progress at the "Wesleyan Methodist church on South Tenth street. All members of the congregation and friends are urged to attend. Hugh Miller, another candidate is making no claims as to the first ballots but will be found with Tot? votes on the last ballot.
