(By Tort.) Manager Jessup has oilercl his outJit of frisky Quakers to report, here .April They will have three days in v liicli to practice for the first game ()t the. season, which will he Sunday. April f.. On this date the Indianapolis letrue team will be the attraction at .Athletic park. The National Tennis association has taken the Indiana, state tournament ivay from the IrviiiKtoii Tennis club. Mid has awarded it to the Indianapolis Pttiuis association. 9 Several Richmond sport lovers will fit lend the his indoor field and track ineet held Friday niht at Tomlinson Hall, Indianapolis. Crack athletes from all over the state will participate fnthis event. c a Clark Crit'fith of the New York Highlanders, is once more out with the (statement that, his outfit will finish one. two, three. (.'lark wins the pennant annually each spring. Another buffalo fcTass circuit is being dreamed of. It includes a couple of South Bend teams and clubs in LaPorte, Michigan City, Bremen, Valparaiso and Mishawaka. With which outfit will Frank Kunyan affiliate? Harry Hay. the "boy winder" in the

brush circuit for the past thirty years, will try out with Indianapolis. The Indianapolis papers speak of him as a promising youngster. A movement is well under way at Itushville to organize a gun club among a number of the prominent men of Hush county who delight iu firearm practice. About forty have signed the organization papers. A club house will he built on grounds leased by the organization. jj, The city polo league race is easy to look at. Four of the five clubs are nicely bunched and all of them have a chance for the pennant. The Beallviews seem to be the only outfit which is hopelessly out of the running. This team needs strengthening badly. Ty Cobb, king pin bingler of the American league, is about to dismount from bis high horse and come to terms with the Detroit champs. Ty is now" in Detroit for that, purpose. After considerable wrangling the Central league magnates at a session held in Zanesville. decided on a sched-

in the New York billiard tournament last night. Moppe defeated Schaefer haiids down, while Slosson defeated Gassignol, the French expert, just as

easy. Next week Hoppe meets Sutton for the world's is.L' championship. The report sent out to the effect that Frank Chance, manager of the champion Cubs, would have retire from the

; game because of an injury to his foot appears to have been a bear tale. If j Frank can raise the price for a new ! pair of shoes which will fit him with- ! out pinching, he will be able to join ; his team again next week. a ' Big Mike Mitchell of the Cincinnati : Reds has been flirting with those ; bold, bad outlaws. Yesterday Mana- ; ger Ganzel had a talk with the big fellow, and he promised to quit casting J the glad eye iu their direction. s I It is probable that a schedule will be adopted at the meeting held by the I.- ; O. league magnates at Van Wert Sun

Two fast city league games were Iilaved last evening at t he Coliseum in the presence of a crowd of 200, which even a bombardment of hailstones the size of marbles could not Keep at home. In the opener the Empires applied the calcimine brush to the tailenders, the Beallview five, taking them into camp by a score of 4 to 0. The defense of the Empire team was excellent and the south enders never had a chance to penetrate it. The Empires also pin up a splendid aggressive game. Despite the one-sided score the Rame was iii'crestins and fairly well played. In the second game the Crescents came up from behind, on the fast Creek outfit and after t icing the score in the third period won out by a nose after fifteen minutes of hard, fast overtime play. This game was by far one of the most interesting seen at the Coliseum this season. Doth teams were battling for second place in the championship race and they went after each other with blood in their eyes. The Creeks played a fierce offensive game the first two periods and when the third started, they were leading the Crescents 3 to 2. In the third the Crescents' defense took a wonderful brace and from that time on the candy men never had a look in at their opponents' go-al. By fast team play, the Crescents succeeded iu tieing the game up toward the close of the last period. When overtime was called, both fives began desperate play. Just as the ball was about to sound the close of the first fifteen minutes of overtime, a Crescent rush hooked a pretty one into the Creeks' draperies and it was all over but the shouting. Friday evening at t ho Coliseum there will be two more fast games. The leaders, the Kibbeys, will tie up with the crack Crescent outfit and the Empires and Greeks will fight it out in the opener.

Here is the comment of an exchange on "The Widow McCarty," which will be at the Gennett Saturday afternoon and night: Action is the main thing to be desired and any one who is doubtful should witness the "Widow McCarty." The widow is bewitching and her six daughters are very pretty and well drilled, and have the finest of costumes. She carries her own orchestra and is the only one. who carries a clious of six life size Teddy Dears.

TOLEDO MAGNATE WANTS 1.-0. TEAM

Very Probable That He Will Attempt to Secure the Muncie Franchise.

LOOKS GOOD TO HIM.

WATTS IS VERY FAVORABLY IMPRESSED WITH THE CIRCUIT'S OUTLOOK MUNCIE FANS ON ANXIOUS SEAT JUST NOW,

(By Tort.) A. J. Watts, a well known base ball promoter of Toledo, o., wants to get a franchise in the Indiana-Ohio league. In a letter to Manager Jessup Mr. Watts states that he wants to break into base ball again, and that if be can secure a good town with an inclosed park, he will accept an I.-O. league franchise. lie states that the I.-O. league looks good to him. Manager Jessup immediately wrote to Watts Mating that the league was iiguring on admitting Munclo to the organization, and that there was a chance for him to break into the game at that point. It was explained to Watts that the 1'nion Traction company was anxious to have an I.-O. league club located at Muncie and that the company was now preparing to build a plant at the West Side park. Watts was advised to open communication with the traction company, as it was looking for a man to take charge of the club. It is quite probable that Watts will take advantage of this tip and will at

tend the meeting of the I.-O. league j which w ill be held Sunday at Van Wert. '

Jack Grim of Indianapolis has been figuring on taking hold of the Muncie franchise, but if he does not act promptly it is probable that Watts will get in ahead of him. Muncie fans are more than anxious for league base ball this season and

baseball men are of the opinion that t

anyone who takes charge of an I.-O. league club in mat city will receive handsome financial returns.
