CALLED DAUGHTER
AS IN A
She Responded and Saved the Family From Death.
Hamilton, Ont., March 12 "Hamilton wants you in a hurry," was the message imparted over the long-dis-tanco telephone to a young woman living in Toronto. The next moment Bhe hoard her mother's voice, weak and almost inarticulate. "Oh, Esther, come to us quickly; we re all dying," said the mother. "Annie is unconscious, and both Bella and Jennie are too sick to call the neighbors. Come as quick as you can. I ean't stand at the phone any longer." Then the flying trip from Toronto to Hamilton was started. The girl (dressed hurriedly and with her Bister's help, harnessed a horse and drove to the railroad station, arriving Just In time to catch a train. An hour and a half from the time she rereived the message she reached her home in Hamilton and found the whole family unconscious front coal gas. She summoned physicians and the four were revived. The mother declares her whole action was carried out as though she was in a dream. 6he had no thought of calling any person in Hamilton.

STREET PETITIONS
These Were Presented to the Board of Works Today By Manufacturers.
ARE FAVORABLY RECEIVED.
Two petitions for the paving of streets were presented Wednesday to the board of public works at its regular session. The Dille & McGuire company and the Wayne Works petitioned for the paving with vitrified brick of North F street from Sixth street to Sixteenth street. The petition also asks for cement curbs, gutters and sidewalks. The second petition was presented by the Wayne Works and asks for the paving of North Fifteenth street from E street to F street. This petition also calls for cement curbs, gutters and sidewalks. It is probable that the board of public wGrks will act favorably on these petitions and at a meet ing to be held in the near future will pass resolutions for these improvements.

Columbus, O., March 12. Considerable unfavorable comment is being made concerning the movement to put an end to the work of the Sites Committee of the general assembly, empowered to make inquiries into alleged Irregularities in the school system of Ohio. , The committee held three meetings in the last five weeks and took an adjournment for two weeks to accommodate the attorneys. Senator Meek, who made the charges, subpoenaed upward of half a hundred witnesses, and all of them have
been examined, and the persons affect
ed by the evidence offered by these
witnesses have asked for a hearing. It is sajd that members of the committee have been approached by fellow members of the general assembly, who have thrown out hints that Senator Meek has "got the worst" of the hearing so far, leading the members of tne committee to believe that it would be well to end the investigation as
soon as possible.

IMTHE REVIVAL Universalist Meetings Are Well - Attended.
The attendance and interest, at the Universalist meeting in.Rhoda Temple increases nightly. Rev. Mr. Jones said last night that conversion should be regarded as a change of purpose and interests made necessary by conconviction of wrong, but that no one should regard it as a completed experience on account of which the future was assured, as every day brings its own problems and experiences and most men have need of many renewals of the right spirit within them. Tonight Rev. Mrs. Jones will preach on "The Diamond Rule." Mrs. Jones
would like to correct error in regard
to her subject of Tuesday night it was the Development of "Christian
Character" not "Christian Science.
