The complete success of our showing and demonstration of LMrresistible and Gossard Corsets this week, and the satisfaction with them expressed by our patrons, decides us to carry regularly in stock a full line of these new style Corsets. In anticipation of this decision, the fitters of our corset department have taken special instructions from Mme. Flagg, the manufacturers' expert corsetierre, and are well qualified to correctly fit these corsets with that nicety of detail which characterizes the work of an expert. Additional stock will arrive next week, and we cordially invite those ladies who have not been fitted with one of these corsets, to give us early opportunity to demonstrate their exceptional style, comfort and beauty. LMrresistible and Gossard corsets are for sale by no other store in Richmond. The elite of Richmond have been fitted to Gossard Corsets during this demonstration, and a notable improvement in figures, as seen on the street and at social functions will be apparent. The Gossard Corset, by the improvement it works, reflects its presence wherever worn, and a distingue unmistakable attaches to its wearer. Any woman wearing a Gossard Corset immediately recognizes the Gossard figure so decided is the change.

Purdue University Cannot Add BakersI School Just at The Present Time.
EARLHAM IS MENTIONED.
New York, March . The movement started last fall by President Winthrop Elsworth Stone, of Purdue university at Lafayette, Ind., with the cooperation of the national executive committee of the Master Bakers' association of the United States to elevat'the dough and pastry artists through the medium of a department of baking at Purdue, has petered out, says th: Sun. It may come to life again at I'urdue or it may spring up at DePauw university, Earlham college or at any one of a dozen rival hoosier institutions of learning, but its frankfurters to lady fingers that these young bakers' apprentices who have worked all winter long so as to pass the entrance exams for the Purdue department of baking next fall will have at least another whole year for preliminary work. Funeral Over Project. The obsequies of the Purdue department of baking have just been held at Birmingham, Ala., where the national executive committee of the Master Bakers' association met for the purpose. The services opened with the reading of a report by George M. Haffner, the untiring secretary of the Indiana association of Master Bakers, who. if the course had lived up to expectations, might have been appointed pumpernickel professor of baking. Mr. Ilal'fner referred feelingly to the conference of bakers with President Stone to map out the new curriculum and said that after the Indiana Master Bakers had approved the project he had collected $2,700 for the foundation of the department and had found hearty support for it everywhere. Finally, however, he sakl, ie regretted to report that the trustees of I'urdue had turned down the proposition.

1 onii ann'a Astronomy. In Tennyson's "Palace of Art" occur the lines: She saw the snowy poles and moons of Mars. That mystic field of drifted light In mid Orion, and the married starn. This at first looks like a literary parallel to Swift's well known fortuitous forecast of the discovery of the Martian satellites, and J. S, Stevenson, writing from Blairavon, Norwood, Ceylon, points out that Profssor II. H. Turner quotes it In "Modern Astronomy" as having been written in This, however, appears not to have been the case, for Mr. Sttvenson on reference to the biography of the late poet laureate by the present Lord Tennyson has found tbe note: "The Moons of Mars' Is the only modern readins here. All the iet are more than half a century old." Scientific discovery was thus uot anticipated by Tennyson in the mention of Martian satellites. Nnture.

are l.i'.iC il -. "Gold when refined from all impurities," said' a jeweler, "and alloys of inferior metals Is denominated pure. This meuns gold of twenty-four carats, and this is the standard recognized by the mint master and dealers in gold. As a matter of fact, however, there is no gold so pure. G'nd of twenty-two carats is about as pure as it can be got. It has two parts of silver or one part of silver and one part of copper. The copper darkens the color of gold, while silver lightens it in color. Twentythree carat gold is occasionally seen, which means a half carat of silver and of copper. Ordinarily eighteen carat gold is the best gold than can be had. Certainly it is the best for jewelry, for pure gold, as it is called, is too soft and will wear away much faster than the owners of it desire.

Our way is to sell you a PIANO for what it is worth, and allow you for the old one what it is REALLY worth.
